Wondering if any one knows of a simple way to measure the platform weight of a mossie.

I was thinking of maybe to scales on a hard surface then balance the platform on top, but Im after some other ideas.

Regards
William

Try my 3 step method.
1. Strip off to the nude and weigh yourself.
2. While naked lift the boat and balance it on your head.
3. Stand on the scales and get you neigbour to read the scale for you...
Subtract you from the equation and your done.. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Take two bathroom scales, place then on concrete the same width as you beach wheels and role the boat up onto them using the wheels. Write weight down and then just weight the wheels... simple math.... there you go!

Always thought you wanted to see me naked Bandit.

I think I might try the bathroom scales trick first.

Another way is to hang like a fishing scale off the middle of the boom, make a sling with your mainsheet and two people lift.

Sorry Guys

Do you know the clock face type scales with a hook on the bottom and a handle on top (you can buy them in the fishing sections of say, Kmart)

Tie that to the boom, get your mainsheet or another rope and make a sling that lifts off 4 points, so the boat can be lifted without rocking, somewhere around between the centrecases and mainbeam, two people one either side, or one standing at the mainbeam (between the hulls, the other at the rear beam, lift boom and boat, one of you should be able to see the scales clock face to get the weight.

It sounds complicated but its not, I wish I could show a picture of what I mean, I'll see if I can.

Regards

One person each end of the boom to lift, scale tied onto boom, rope that slinging (lifting) the platform onto the hook on the scales. Doesn't have to be the boom could be a steel pipe or bit of hardwood etc. You know in the movies when they carry a prisoner with their arms and legs tied to a pole, and two people either end carry the pole on their shoulders (thats the worst possible example I have ever given)

One set of bathroom scales with a plank across is all you need. You can also weigh the boat fully rigged like this - which is always interesting.
Watch out for splinters if you're doing it nude though.

Weighed the mossie today. For a boat that was built in 92 she still comes in under weight at an even 50kg. Now to put the ballast back in.
Im hopefully going to have made a scale that you can pick the boat up (block and tackle style) so we can weigh the boats at the nsw states. Mainly doing it for the older boats, but if any one is wanting to find out how much their boat weighs they will be more than welcome to use it.
