You must see this. A hull flying skipper leans too hard on his brittle hiking stick and finds himself tumbling backwards from a very high wing.
Short Video.

What's a hiking stick?
I am enjoying sailing my new H17 and was hiking out and was leaning out of my wing, ripping up wind and lamenting the fact there were no factory fitted hiking straps.
I will fit them.
I could keep great control of the boat for ages before I had to trap with them.
But I can see how his toe might have slipped from the gunnel lip and hey-ho down you go!

I can't imagine that the giant flat at the top of the mast helped at all with his righting moment.

Either he was tethered, or not going very fast. He was back at the boat an in instant.

looks to me like he never let go of the mainsheet and used it to pull himself onto the hull. Probably a smart move when sailing singlehanded (don't want to get seperated from the boat).

Well spotted, you can see the sheet over the wing in the last shots.
