Any good nonstretch or low stretch is fine for tramp lacing.

For any loaded handheld line you want something soft or fuzzy covered like polyester braid with a spun cover. If money is not critical the best I've used is maffoli swift cord. Got in on spin sheets and the main sheet my jib is self tacking and so crew doesn't need to handle it much. Got 1/4" ultraline on that.

For sheets there is a new line called SALSA that cannot be beaten. Light, strong, easy on the hands, doesn't knot up, and goes through the blocks easily. And is not expensive.

On the trampoline thing, I switched from "line" to rubber bungie cord (10 feet of 3/8" I think?) on my Hobie 18 and I LOVED the tramp after that. Now, it will bounce you from tack to tack, which is fun, but it will always be tight with no sagging.

The cat catalogs sell bungie tramp lacing kits but I just went to the hardware store and bought a bunch of it off the spool for less than half the price of the kits. No, it won't last for 10 years out in the sun, but it's pretty cheap and easy to replace after a couple years wear.

I recently saw someone on another forum (thebeachcats) ask about using bungee and i said i had never heard of anyone doing this.

Someone pointed out it was suggested in Murray’s catalogue. i was surprised.

I stated on my TheMightyHobie18 tramp lacing tension had alot to do with the rigidity of my boat and i thought it was a crazy idea.... interesting to hear you love it

I have used a combo on the Prindles.

Basically I had both a high strength line as a bungee cord through the tension setup at the back of the tramp. The normal line prevented the bounching effect by taking the load when you sat on it and the bungee pulled the tramp tight when no load was on it. Best of both worlds.

Using bungee on the tramp lace up is about the worst thing you can do!

Being bounced around while tacking/gybing in rough weather is bad enough...adding bungee loading to the mix is just dumb.

Nawww...it's not that bad if you lace it very tight in the first place, it only has a small amount of bounce left in it, but it will keep your tramp very tight all the time. I liked it a lot better than a loose tramp that you have to keep tightening with a traditional lace up line.

I think it was the Hobie 16 & 18 guys that came up with the bungey theory back in the 80s. The idea kind of disappeared after a short time, however.
Jury is out on whether it worked well or not. I stuck with line. Now the modern line available stretches less and should work better.
