If you know any of the Gulfport guys that do not frequent this board, (Seth, Steph, Todd, the new Viper guy) please pass it along. Thanks. I saw Mike Burley this weekend and he is planning on coming to the KPRR in June. He mentioned he'd try to get the Ft. Lauderdale fleet to come as well. Keep spreading the word! Thanks.

Posts: 6,049 Sebring, Florida. | Hey, look at this! Last year's Kelly Park River Regatta made the front page of the new Murray's Catelog! Now, before you all go getting your panties in a wad, no, that is not -me- sailing the Blade with sail #777. That weekend Matt let ace A catter Ben Moon borrow a Blade but had no sails, so I lent him my sails, which is why he is in front for a perfect start, obviously. And as he sailed by, I thought I heard his crew singing that hip hop song, "Don't you wish your girlfriend was Hot like me, Don'tcha..." And thanks go to Terry Back who found this picture, I thought some of you might get a kick out of it. BTW, I am on Pete's boat, number 703, but Pete was on the beach that day. http://www.murrays.com/archive/MurraysWhole.pdf

Posts: 6,049 Sebring, Florida. | Sorry for that sail number mistake Terry, it is you and Tom I saw on 703. I recognized the life jacket and hat but thought it was me! I guess that must have been taken on Sunday, when I was on the A cat?
Anyway, some good press for the F16's as there are quite a few in that one picture, to include the Taipans.

Great photo! Especially cool that it is on the cover. Question about the start though. If the windward mark is set correctly, 777 will be pinned on the leeward side of the course or have to duck a lot of competitors? Either, he will have to make the upmost of the clean air which is doubtful with an N20 lurking and other F-16s with somewhat clean air in there, hope for a huge shift, or there is an obstical (shoreline) ahead were he will be able to hail for room which would cause a dominio effect on the leaders. Correct? Thanks in advance, still learning.

Posts: 606 Maryland | Wow! So Ben was able to pull far enough ahead, tack to port, and not have to duck anyone with that many boats on the line? That is exceptional sailing, WTG!
Can anyone recall if the A mark set correctly?

Posts: 6,049 Sebring, Florida. | It was a light air day, on such a day you can (maybe should) get clear air and go all the way out to the port layline, one tack it to the A mark rather than tack early, tack again, tack again, etc. Waiting for the seabreeze to come in, it would have come in from the left side (looking upwind) so he was going in the right direction to get to the next shift, or better wind, first.
Ben usually sails an A cat and it was his first time on the Blade, he did quite well. And it was his crew's first time with a spinnaker boat I think. She is a quick learner and came back for more at Tradewinds where she really had to work.
