Posts: 41 | I'm suprised more northern Beach Cat Sailors don't come down for this one. I figure now that Randy Smyth doesnt do it every year, you might have a chance .

Posts: 5,525 | I've been warned away. Lot's of experienced distance racer don't recommend it for 16 foot boats or for those inexperienced in distance racing. Also, the logistics are bad for me.
Still, I don't want to throw cold water on you. I'm always looking for an excuse to sail in the Keys.

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | Pete, I'm not sure why you'd be dissuaded from this race. Yes, it is logistically a bit more of a hassle than a bouy race, but the course itself is relatively sheltered (dare I say "inland") most of the course. The several I had completed in the past were always fun, even the drifters, because of the huge participation. One year I had someone drive the trailer down to Largo. Next year I sailed back up the next day. Once I set up in Largo, sailed to Miami (spent night in Miami) and raced back down. One year I did round trip non-stop. (The non-stop route was most fun since you're picking through the mono fleet around the half-way point... )

Posts: 3,906 Clermont, FL, USA | The schedule of events makes this event fairly unfriendly to out of town teams.
Skipper's meeting the Thursday before, and the awards the weekend after.
Since I have limited time and money, this one finds itself lower on the my list. I've always enjoyed the sailing this run and it's tough to beat finishing in the Keys.

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | See, that's your problem... You're looking for the pickle platter!
I never attended the pre-race/post-race ceremonies. Showed up, sailed, grabbed a drink or two, and wandered off...
Maybe that's why it wasn't so traumatic for me?
We all have our favorites... wonder which ones are the worst?

Uh... no, if I was in it for the pickle dish I would have left the game a long time ago. As I said I have a limited amount of time and money and this one just falls below the cut. Jay, we can't all do every regatta.

Posts: 5,525 | Maybe next year? This year conflicts with GYC Multihull, which is a big deal for us.
