Its a shame to plan another regatta the same weekend as The "54th Annual Miami to Key Largo Race" The Key Largo Race has a long history at a great venue and for a good cause. Just my .02

Do many beach cats even show up for the MKL? I always thought it was more of a big boat race.

Lauderdale to Key West is a big boat race smile 24 feet and over Stars and Stripes holds the multi-hull record for that one. Dennis Conners rule beater from San Diego.

Yeah its true its sucks that two events are on the same date. A good thing about it is, those in the south can choose to do the MKL race which is a beatifull race down the ICW. Those who choose to travel north can do the GYC. Both events are very different. The GYC race is strictly bouy racing and will be launched from the Gulfport Municipal Beach. The Miami Key Largo is just south of the Rickenbacher Causeway and is a drag race south. Different strokes for different folks.

Indeed well spoken, My thoughts go to next year when perhaps people can do both smile My local club HISC did the same thing and for the first time this year they changed the schedule of the Old Port Cove Regatta to the next weekend now attendance at both will increase smile

Mary or Rick:
This thread got offtopic, is there any way the offtopic replies can get deleted?

Here is an update.
Updating information.

Friday the beach will open up to us from noon on down for setup.
Registration can be done ONLINE at the website http://www.gulfportyachtclub.com OR
Friday afternoon between 6 and 8pm at the Yachtclub. There will be some beer and chips to mingle.
Late registration can be done on the beach between 9 and 10am on Saturday morning.
PRO is Dave Ellis
Racing will be done all Saturday afternoon.
6PM dinner will be served at the Yachtclub party get together to drink rum around the bon fire to follow.
Sunday races start a bit earlier and no races will start after 2pm.

I plan on setting up Friday at the Yachtclub and sailing over to the beach that early afternoon.

So far we have 11 boats registered. 5 two up boats and six one man boats (I assume A cats)

This information was mentioned at the Yacht club's regular member meeting. I am just a messenger. As I get more information I will keep this thread up to date.
