The Easter Regatta at Gippsland Lakes YC will be incorporating the first F16 Australian Titles this year. So for the Mozzies with spinnakers there should be some Blades, Vipers and Taipans to race against.
The Notice of Race for the F16s is attached. I don't have a NoR for the Easter regatta yet but the OTB schedule should be much the same as for the F16s.

Would love to bring my mossie+kite down, but its a long drive from qld to vic, cant wait for nsw mossie nats next year. Is there a national mossie spinnaker comp? or is that just a state comp run in vic?

So far it's just been a state titles for spinnaker boats in Vic. There aren't the numbers to justify a national titles.
There had been thoughts about running something for the spinnakers after the Nationals next year, but it's a big ask, to get people to stick around and sail another series right after the nats.

Hey great to hear you are coming Matt, Tim and Neil have other commitments, but Peter is intending to sail with kite, of course all Mossies are welcome.
There will be a award for the first Mossie in the F16 Nationals as long as we get more than 4 boats, so there is a good chance that will happen.
To be eligible for racing in the F16 Nats you will need to become a member of the Australian Formula 16 Association. You can join on the International F16 website.
To race in the Gippsland Lakes Y.C. Easter regatta you don't need to be a F16 member.

**** 'o' the Lake" Around Raymond Island Race Last Year, there is a perpetual Fastest Time Trophy for it, would be great to get a sailboard on it.
Fastest time on it at present is undr 60 minutes by Mossies, I organised the Trophy years ago after I got fastest on a Raceboard but the time wasn't kept, I believe it was around 47 minutes. Have been sailing the old raceboard a bit again recently, blew the Mossies away downwind in one race.
Had a great sail on Tim's Mossie again today, flying around the course in a northly with flat water. Very gusty but fun.

just a question, the hobie 16's come with kites now, but are they classed as an F16? Hobies wont race with kites unless its the isaf youth championships, so i would like to know tho? Matt

I dont think the hobie 16s fit under the f16 restrictions, i think the h16 is a little longer than the f16 rules allow and has a much bigger mainsail area than the f16 rules allow (mostly because of the crazy foot length of the h16 main).
Mossies+kites arent classified as f16 as we are below the minimum weight, however we can race in their open f16 division as a dispensated f16 due to our much smaller beam width, mast height and sail area. So im not sure weather the h16 is too far out of range of the restrictions to race as in the open f16 division, or weather factors like its weight is well over minimum weight or that it has a mast height under the minimum would allow it race in the open f16 div. Best go the "Formula 16 High Performance" section of the forum and ask Wouter, hes a former chairman of the f16s and one of the founding members, so he'd be able to tell you for sure.

Hi Matt,
my understanding is that the Hobie 16 has way to much sail to be compliant and they have never applied to be grandfathered.
I am sure I heard somewhere they are not going to be used for Youth regattas any more either, so I think it is goodbye to H16 with Spin. It seems that Hobie OZ will be happy with that, they really didn't like to have the boat rigged with spinnaker from what I heard, they never seemed to be able to get them to perform.

just thought I would tell you about another beautiful day sailing on the Lakes.
Seabreeze was only about 10 knots, but with temps in the high 20's and not a cloud in the sky, who cares. Raced Tim's Mossie with Spin and flew around the course to beat Neil sailing without spinnaker by 4 minutes plus. Winning on Yardstick by 2 minutes. Just another perfect day on the lakes . Can't wait till Easter and the F16 Nats.

latest update, from the B.O.M. site, mid 20's temp and light winds through to Sunday. Looks like a pleasant weekend. Seabreeze site currently predicting around 10 kts. Friday and 15-17 kts Saturday. Sounds perfect.
But it is early yet. Blowing 30 kts here at the moment.
Had another great sail on Tim's Mossie today. Sailed on Lake Wellington about 45 min. drive from where we normaly sail. Racing against Neil on his Mossie with Spinnaker, plus one cat rigged Mossie, 4 x Paper Tigers, 3 x Arrows and 1 Nacra 14sq. In very gusty conditions to 25kts. plus.
Neil and I had a great battle, Neil was half way along the reach as I rounded the first mark after, starting late (didn't realize it was our division start). Club we where at used Navy Numeral Flags rather than the Numeral Pennants I was used to. Then hit the first mark, took 2 laps to catch Neil trapezing on reach when he sat on side and flying spinnaker, when he left his in chute . Passed him on the next beat, then he got back past near the top mark. Then I drew along side again on reach, to gybe just ahead and pop the spin and take off.
Until bigger gusts hit and massive cartwheel , got mud on the top of the spinnaker , it's a very shallow lake, not like where we sail normaly. Anyway got it up and took off after him again, catching up again, finishing 1 minute behind. Still got second on Yardstick only 4 cats finished, I think Neil was the only one not to capsize .
Can't wait till Easter Nats.

Sounds like allot of fun. Both Port Phillip and Westernport Bays registered 30 knots plus today.
Which club were you sailing from; Sale ? Sounds like they have some reasonable numbers of catamarans.
Good luck at the Easter regatta. I'm sure you and Neil will have a great battle. Watch out for Matt Stone if the wind is not too strong. He's been getting allot of practice sailing with spinnaker in our club races.
Regards,
Peter

sailing from Lake Wellington Y.C. It was actualy the resail of the Eastern Region inter club regatta, (originaly scheduled Black Saturday weekend). So numbers where down a bit as many clubs had not left a hole in their calendar for the resail.
Neil Joiner won't be at the F16 Nats/Easter Regatta. But I am sure I will have fun with out him.
