Whats your thoughts????? will pittings wings on my nacra be an advantage? Hobie has them and monohulls have used them for years why not Nacra? Going out another 2 foot would be a buzz and when there isnt enough wind to trap you could sit out further. They would be a cheap and easy add on for perhaps a huge performance gain. Imagine an 18 foot skiff without them

I've got wings for my FXone. My weight is anywhere from right at minimum weight, to five pounds over. Unless it is blowing really hard they aren't worth carrying around the extra weight when racing, even then I'm not sure they are worth it. But I almost always use them when just out screwing around.

The biggest downside about sailing it both ways is that you really need to have two sets of sheets for everything. I've got everything trimmed down for sailing with out them, and that extra two feet of width becomes a hassle then.

I have yet to trap out with the spinnaker up in any big wind with the wings too, I'd like to add a foot strap before getting too crazy about it.

Hobie also no longer has them for the Euro boats, they've been discontinued.

No! why not? Karl do they drag in the water when your hull rises? Surley it will help to get out further in bigger winds. What use are they when you are just screwing around, sounds like they can be fun.

Devon they are really fun and comfortable prob not the best thing for racing though. I have never been on a Nacra with wings but my Hobie 18 has them and I usually leave them on for racing too. I have an F17 as my racing boat now and the Hobie as my pleasure boat and I sure do miss those wings when I'm on the Nacra. Be careful about some of the opinions you will get from some people on this forum this has been discussed many times and you will get a lot of negative comments about wings from people who have never sailed a boat with wings.

Not sure about Nacra wings but with Hobie wings you really have to be flying a hull high to have the lee wing drag in the water and slow you down... in other words if your lee wing is dragging you are sailing slow anyway regardless of the wings.

So far from what i have learnt that wings will definatly give you more leverage which will push the leeward hull down pitchpole risk in this especially if your cat is a little low in the bows the hobie 16 has this problem when sailed with wings thats why hobie have the bow flairs you can add on. But the I17 has heaps in the front and needs to be pushed really hard when 1 up to even come close so i guess that adding even small light weight wings would be simple and effective, will have to find out if the hobie wings will fit a I17 does any one know????????

No, they won't. Not with out significant amount of modification.

Nacra wings slip into the end of the beams and they may work but on an F17 I believe you would still have to make modifications like drilling a larger diameter hole in the cap casting but I still don't know if this would work because I have no experience with Nacra wings. But I do know that if you drill out these holes to accept wings you will also be making your boat NON class legal which may not bother you but will definately hurt your re-sale value.
