question, but not necessarily for Mr. Ashby...

In the european multihull regattas I see, it would appear the vast majority of female sailors are driving the boats. In the USA it would appear to be opposite this. Any particular reason for this?

More seriously, I think it make sense to put the lighter ones on the tiller, and women are usually lighter. At the level of competition the euro F18 are any little gain is worth taking.

I think it makes sense to put the lighter of any two crew on the tiller, keep the beef up near the middle of the hull where the greatest volume is, rather than at the back and dragging the sterns.

Also the crew drives the mainsail most of the time upwind and the Kite down wind.

.....and you wanna be able to move the weight around - word has it that the helm is always stuck to the crossbar some way, some how.

That extra 10+ kg behind the stern does wonder while going downwind in bf5-6 on a F18.

Thanks Andrew! I'm going to keep forcing cat sailing onto the general sailing public every chance I get.

The link works, and I know I've seen the interview - but now it's gone. Is it removed from from that page?
