Have you been to The Rudder Club in Jax? They've got a launch ramp and storage facilities...but it's on the river, not on the Atlantic beach.

Your options without trax are going to be very limited. Basically limited to ramp access.

Cat trax are mandatory equipment, get some, borrow some, then you have hindreds of places to launch.

The best forgotten and accessible beach is HERE> http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=s&lat=29.914973&lon=-81.288464&mag=12&zoom=15

It is just north of the inlet at St.Augustine. I first sailed my Hobie 14 here in 1971. We took the Wave there last summer, not really believing we could even get near the water.

BIG SURPRISE...the little sandy access road off A1A was still there exactly like it was 38 years ago. You can still drive right on the beach and depending on the wind conditions, sail and surf the waves like Hobie (or Prindle) intended beach cats to do.

There is also a nice outdoor shower by the nearby beach pavillion.

BTW, beach wheels are nice, but we never needed them back then. There are always curious beach walkers who will lend a hand if you need one.

There are several other beaches within an hour drive that you can drive on to launch. Cresent Beach(just south of St Augustine), Peters Point in Fernadina(Van Dyke road), Amelia Island State Park and Jacksonville Huguenot Park(noth side of St Johns inlet). But you need to find if you need 4 wheel drive for the soft sand.
Anastasia state park(south side of St augustine inlet) has a nice launch site in the bay for sailing when the ocean is to rough.

I don't know if you can launch from the place where we land at for Tybee - but Fernandina has that nice beach with access right next to Slider's restaurant.

I launch my H-20 @ Lighthouse boat ramp in St.Augustine also known as Salt Run . I do have a beach wheels but we just put a boat in a water with trailer and then we haul out same way.

I live Amelia Island. Peters point ya need 4 wheel drive and like Fernandina bch by Sliders ya cant launch a boat so says the cops. Hugenot is ok but the place is so packed with kite surfers and dumbasses of all types that it is not "fun".
I am alone and a disabled vet so I am limited to where and how I go about sailin for now.
