With Easter and Spring Fever falling so late this year, there is a bit of a gap in the spring sailing schedule. For years, I have wanted to do a night distance race through Tampa Bay. Looking at Google Earth, there are a couple different options. Starting from Davis Islands, a course to the St Pete pier and back is about 35 miles (non-spin). From Davis Islands to the Skyway and back is about 50 miles (spin). A race starting around 7pm could potentially be finished by midnight. Tampa Bay does provide protected waters, but there is no place to bail out in the event of breakdown. There is also that pesky shipping channel. Plenty of opportunity for some pretty intense GPS navigation, if you go into MacDill's restricted zone, they point machine guns at you! If you think this sounds like a great adventure, let me know and I'll start putting things together.

I think your race sounds stellar - during the day!

I'd be in if we can figure out the logistics to get our boat down there, or use Dings smile

Saturday March 19th is a full moon. What potential conflicts exist for that date for those interested in attending?

Pensacola Mid Winters and Hobie Mid Winters East are typically around that time.
