Mother of GOD it's friggn' COLD!

I know you guys in Ireland, Scotland, England and Europe are getting hammered, I flew over last week and I've never seen so much white stuff on the ground this early in the year, but we are even down to record lows here in Florida too!

It was down to 32F here this morning, our "normal" low this time of year should be 53F. Nice wind (too damn much wind with those temps!) but I don't own a dry suit. I only moved down here to get away from this crap!!

I hope it warms up before Tradewinds!

Mine's been running non-stop all last night and this morning. I had to scrape the frost off the windshield using a credit card this morning to take the kids to school!

Well, I've waited 'til the last minute, as usual. So, I have to go rent a pressure washer to clean the patio, walks and drive. Guests on Sunday and Debbie says it must be done.

She fractured her ankle so I'm doing the Mr. Mom stuff. I'd suggested sardines and crackers for Sunday dinner, but she wouldn't buy it. Thank God for Publix!

I have to go up to Washington, DC for a family event this coming weekend...I'm digging through my closet trying to locate all my old NH clothes! Damn I've turned into a real cold weather pussy with all this Florida summer weather! It was what, 85 last week? Now I've got to get dressed just to let the dogs out! You know Publix will cook you a rotissary chicken or 3, right? Might ask them if they'd do a turkey for you.

You asshats realize I would run Looney Toon style through the front door naked if it were 50F out.

It was negative god damn nine degree's this morning! Fahrenheit! And this is just the start! It'll be 20 degree's colder in a few weeks!

Man up you pussies.

Hey, I went swimming in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of NH one day in January, on a bet.

Of course I was about 18...and drunk...but I had to run barefoot for 100 yards through 6" of snow on the beach just to get to the water, then dive all the way under, stay in for 1 full minute, then run back and get dressed. I'm pretty sure the water temp was below 32 but wasn't frozen due to the salt and wave action of course. Never again! I was sick for a week.

Memories of that event and my childhood job, delivering news papers on a bike, at 6am every day, all winter, had a lot to do with my moving to Florida. You should consider it Karl.

Wearing clothes sucks...

Tim. Remember that anytime you are in or near Washington DC your probably less that an hour from Galesville where there are, I forget how many, F-16s. There are also F-16 sailors who have been known to toss beers and tell lies so don't be shy about getting in touch with us. Ed

Still hazey after all these beers.

Ed, thanks for the invite! I wish I had time but I'm meeting up with my sisters and a brother, my Mom, other family members all from NH, to attend a wreath laying ceremony at Arlington, where my father is burried.

My son and I will be on the ground less than 24 hours, then we have to get back to FL for other stuff. Wish I had more time, I'd love to see you guys and have a few brews!

Yeah Karl, the building boom went bust here a few years ago and now it's gotten very ugly with all the foreclosures down here. You'd be a lot better off, job wise, building cabinets up there, I don't think anyone is building anything down here.

Yeah, I'm semi trapped in my house. My street has some 4ft + drifts on it. I live on a hill and I think I can get out, but I might not make it back till its plowed. Lucky for me, my street is the absolute last on to get cleaned up.

Yesterday was pretty nasty.

So, I'm out.

Took me 3hrs with a snowblower to find my driveway back again.

I managed to get stuck trying to get out of the garage.

Ha ha laugh

Differential locked and low gear + manual transmission? That is what I use to get over the usual roadblock in my driveway left by the plow in the morning. Then I have the fun of cleaning it away when I get back from work, and I dont have a snowblower.

Learn to ski cross country! Is is very useful sometimes wink

I wish I could lock the differentials! As is I've got 2.5 wheel drive. My limited slip has about had it in the rear axle, and the front axle doesn't have a clutch pack in it. At 7500#'s K=1/2MV^2 becomes my friend when it comes to getting through snow.

I live in an extremely small town, 210 people, and the snow plowing is handled by a couple of guys with a skid loader, and a plow on a pick up truck. I also live in a new housing development, which was supposed to have 15 houses, but only has had two built. So, I'm lucky and they plow most of the snow to the opposite side of the street where there isn't any houses. I usually don't get a big pile from the plow at the end of the driveway.

what was that movie with Dennis Quaid about the super cold storm that froze everyone? The last scene (from space) showed the lower 48 states (except for Ft. Myers and south) covered in snow...

Global warming have many effects, cold winters is one. Might be counterintuitive but no less something we will have to adjust to.

We need to find a good year round warm spot, might be right on the equator, with great beaches for our cats, then everybody move there and sail year round!

From that old Eagles song: "Call some place paradise, kiss it good bye..."

At least the 20 degree air last night killed my grass so I won't have to mow the lawn any time soon!

"Which god by the way?"

Well, not "a" god ...I was referring to "The God"...

Funny you should ask...we just celebrated his Sons birthday 3 days ago...The only one who ever walked the walk to go with the talk...the one who referred to Himself as "I Am"...ring any bells? You know...the Guy that science spends all its time trying to figure out what He did, and how He did it...while at the same time refusing to acknowledge He even exists (isn't that a hoot!)...the one Who made all things, and without Him nothing has been made...surly you have heard of Him...

Granted people make up their own gods on a daily bases...but rather than talking about a figment of someone's imagination...I am talking about the one who designed and created the imagination.

There is a book He had written ... it gives a great picture of who He is and what He is all about...lots of people miss quote it...take things out of context...seems they pass on what they hear other people say about Him rather than reading it for themselves...you will find that most of the stanches critics are those that have read very little of it, if any of it at all.

The Book is very cool and is filled with infinite wisdom...it is alive, one can read it one hundred times and find some new nugget of knowledge each and every time. If you are the impatient sort you can skip to the end and see how everything plays out...I don't want to give away the ending but I will tell you this...."The guy that dies with the most toys doesn't win" smile

P.S. He lives in a very excluisive gated community and there is one, and only one way to get in...you have to be in tight with His Son... Jesus.

Sounds very similar to the chap with a big beard, red clothes and reindeer. Myself I celebrated winter solstice and the coming of summer a few days ago. Summer is a real reason for celebration!

20degF = -6degC.. In Florida!! Wow!
But dont worry about the grass. It freezes here every fall and spring, several times. I am still cutting grass every summer.

I think eternal summer would be a bit boring, but our winters at 63deg N is a bit too long smile

"the coming of summer a few days ago. Summer is a real reason for celebration!"

That all depends on where you live...here in Florida...the coming of summer is like looking forward to hell... 98 + degree days with 90%-100% humidity, sand flies and mosquitoes...and the worst thing of all....something that would get your attention... the temperatures kill the pot life of your resin...LOL

The ones that like summer here work in an AC office set at 70degrees all day. In fact they go from their AC homes to their AC cars to their AC office and back never being outside in the heat for more than a couple minutes at a time.

Oh... and the chap with the big beard, red clothes and reindeer...he was created by an imagination....within a mind... that was created by God...just can't side step the Creator...He is, in the truest sense of the word, into eveerything...LOL

Ever tried to make epoxy kick off in zero to +5degC? I would take the long potlife hardener and work faster before going to the beach. Please remind me to introduce you to Norwegian mossies. The ones marked DC-9 and other critters like that. That is another good thing about winter. No insects around.

Made me think of the finishing scenes and major plot of MIB. Good producers and special effects is all it takes evidently.

Yes, summer so great...Direct Sun...insain humidity, more trips to the dermatologist to get skin cancer frozen, burned, cut off/out or Efudex to chemically burn off half the skin along with the cancer on your face/arms and backs of hands....get to wear longsleeve shirts, Gloves, hats trying to cover all exposed skin areas...Yea Summer NOT!!!!!!!!! So much fun can't wait frown

Dont wear sunscreen and dont get sunburn. Eat paelo. No skin cancer.

If not, move to arctic Norway. 4 months with no sun and very low radiation levels during summer due to the narrow angle of the sun above the horizon. Be prepared to eat a lot of vitamin D3 if you do.

"Made me think of the finishing scenes and major plot of MIB. Good producers and special effects is all it takes evidently."

Rolf, the advances in animation and special effects has caused theorists to be deceived by their own fantasies. It was bad enough when they wrote their delusional ideas in book form....now they can make a realistic animation.

As they construct this alternate reality, they actual hypnotize themselves into believing their own lies...LOL...Every week it seems someone comes up with a new "the worlds going to end " hypothesis with full color animation to give visual support to their bizarre theories...looking for notoriety and government/college grants to pursue their "research" (I use that term very loosely).

That is why God instructs us to live our life by His principals rather than only by what we perceive with our senses...Our senses are easily manipulated and are often not trustworthy in being the sole element in our decision making process. Your reference to the MIB closing scene plays right into this issue.

I Actually love where I live, it is an absolute paradise from about October through May. June through September would be better spent some where further north...much further north...LOL or inside in the AC...LOL

You need to spend more time at the beach. It never gets much over 89 10 ft from the water or closer. Never sailed a day in Florida where I complained about the heat. At least on the east coast.

The southern gulf can be flat as a mirror and in the 90s, but that's mostly in September. In the height of summmer there is almost always a sea breeze.

"You need to spend more time at the beach"

I live 2 blocks from the Atlantic ocean to the east, and 1 block from the Intracoastal waterway on the west for the last 26 years...how close do I have to get? Before that spent about 14 years living where my literal back yard was the Ft. Pierce Inlet...I know from where I speak...LOL

I'm only a block off the beach and the temp between my house and 10 ft from the water(as in Beach) can be 6 degrees cooler in the middle of the summer. And I can't belive there is that much diff betweem Ft. Pierce and Daytona beach.

Orphan...maybe it comes down to the age factor...I have been out in the sun all my life, both work and at play (playing almost exclusively on or around the water)....at 57 years old the cumulative damage is substantial.

Keep in mind that very few people get to work outside and maintain a distance of less than 10 feet from the waters edge.
Most lifeguard towers are not even that close.

Keep in mind also that the Gulf stream is about 3 times closer here than Daytona...I have been up there surfing and the water temperature is substantialy colder at times.
