Just a reminder that the Second Annual Middle Bass Challenge AKA The Cody Memorial is only a week away.

It will be Monday following Bay Week which is next Friday-Sunday at Put-In-Bay.

Steve and Laurel Abbey will be providing the post-race party at the John Julius cottage on Middle Bas.

For those of you who are coming a long way for Bay Week, don't forget Monday is a Race Day too!

I also have a spare Wave and there are probably several others available if any "rock stars" want to drop in on Monday for a day on the water and a chance to sample WAVE LIFE.

Bay Week starts tomorrow and there are at least one or two Waves without pilots, so if you are nearby, let us know and we might be able to fix you up.

Another great day on the waters off Put-In-Bay.

With lighter winds in the morning we postponed until 11:45.

Instead of sailing around Middle Bass and North Bass (12.5 miles), we decided to go around Sugar Island and Rattlesnake Island, a 6.2 mile triangle. Of course as usual, sailors could choose which way to go.

Just to make it intersting, you had to shoot the rattles of Rattlesnake Island. The rattles are two rocks off the west end that are about 50' apart.

Winds were varied from 4-8 knots. Nine boats started and as it turned out, 4 went clockwise and 5 went the other way.

After an hour and twenty minutes the leaders of each fleet converged at the finish close enough that it seemed neither way was favored very much.

Skip Kaub barely nipped out his second victory in a row over poor Doug Seib who had lead decisively until he fell victim to the standing wind hole near Sugar Isand.

Jack Woehrle crossed the line about 20 seconds later coming from the other direction.

We had three classes:The race was followed by the usual awesome cook-out and post race gathering at the cottage of John Julius on Middle Bass Island. Steve and Laurel Abbey provided the cuisine which was highlited by special ribs and pulled pork sandwiches.

IWCA ~ open

1. Skip Kaub
2. Doug Seib
3. Jack Woehrle
4. Doug Waugh

HCA

1. Deb Schaefer

Mixed doubles

1. Rick White and Caroline J.
2. Steve Abbey and Caroline A.
3. Betty Bliss and Maggie
4. Dick Bliss and Julia

Overall results:

1. Skip Kaub
2. Doug Seib
3. Jack Woehrle
4. Rick White
5. Doug Waugh
6. Steve Abbey
7. Deb Schaefer
8. Betty Bliss
9. Dick Bliss
