Lake Mohave was OOONNnn... both Thursday, and Friday !!
But we'll start with Friday because this Is a sailing forum.

So today i'm back at Mohave , in 25 + & i'm on a 20-Ft Hobie cat ; the Main was
reefed to about the size of a Hobie-16, & we were running without the jib in 2 to 2.5-ft
chop. South East winds are Great , cause it keeps the swells down.

Ouch --- we completely blew-out the Main sail in a 30 +mph gust, & had to hoist the
jib, ((actually -- unfurl it )) to get back home, there goes $2.5K for another Main-sail
with reefing points sewn-in !!

On Thursday, I kitted on a TT for a bit, then went for more practice on the surfboard, for the rest of the day
(( Yea- i kite-board on double prosthetic-s ))
. Everything was Great until about 3 hours -in ... when
i went for a back-roll with a kite-loop , while me buddy Santiago was following
me, ((making sure he watched)).
Yea-- i know what went wrong ; probably the part
about him watching !!

Ouch -- the landing wasn't so great ; There goes $15K for a new prosthetic, compliments
of the USA -- VA, (my sponsor) !! Going in the Army back in the 70's , does
have it's advantages , now that i'm older and wiser ! Did he say wiser ?

Now im getting Really Drunk because i know that by tomorrow i'm gonna
be dwelling on what the cost was for those two days of FUN

I had stated the sail disintegrated in a 30 +mph gust ;
and yea,(after sleeping on it) -----
it "Was" worth it

I think they should be able to build fake-legs
that Do NOT break as easy as what that one did though ?
OK, i'm hard on stuff, but i tell them that up-front.

Great story; thanks. You are a real hero being a veteran and still out there enjoying life, nature, sport...

We used to just hoist a h14 main on a h16 instead of going thru the reefing process. Maybe you should look into getting a hi wind main either used or custom. Keep your moderate wind equipment for lighter sailing.
Furling jibs sure have their place; it's good to make it back to the beach under your own power.

30mph=26knts- after 30knts. it's a survival game; you need a special vessel for that.

That is a GREAT idea !!
Will a 16 main , fit in the mast tract of a Hobie 20 ?

We already made an extension wire to fit below the
lock-ring on the Main Halyard ; would be easy to modify .

OR

Who could make us a storm Main the size of a 16 ?

Bille,

The problem with outfitting a H16 main to the H20 is the foot length (that's why sail tubes started out 10 foot long wink )

Maybe the H17 (or TheMightyHobie18), again having to check the foot length for connection to the boom, and probably some modified attachment mechanism, like your reefed main halyard set-up, necessary.

Option B, find another 20 main for the lazy days (under 20knots) and have Chip Beck make you a "storm" main.

Option C, since Mojave is your lake, ditch the 20 and get a Tornado or H16 laugh

Thanks for your service to the country

I wasn't gonna post this video of last Friday, because
it's a bit out of focus, but it shows how the buoyancy
in the bow of the hulls --- raises them Up through
the waves .

Were just getting into the juice, & the waves are getting
bigger as the wind increases. I got to start being careful
to NOT eject my supposedly : "NON-disposable ballast".
