Hey everyone.

My wife and I are joining her family in Myrtle beach in a few weeks for a week-long vacation. We are staying at the Ocean Blue Resort, south end of Ocean Blvd. We are thinking about taking our Hobie 16, but I want to be sure that we will actually be able to use it. I've got a few questions and it would be great if some of the locals could chime in. I've sailed near there before in some Surfside regattas and have sailed in Garden City, but that was quite a few years ago.

1. Is there easy beach access near the Resort and if so, where?
2. Can boats be left on the beach overnight? (I know this is becoming an almost non-existent option all along the coast)
3. Is there going to be anyone sailing in the area around the first full week of August?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

james, i beleive you can still launch from the beach access at Springmaid beach which is where OD ends. Last time i launched they made me leave my sails down, but I believe if you roll your boat south about 50 yards you will be good. This is where the lifegaurd stands end and Myrtle beach State park begins, pretty isolated there.
Downwind sails rents cats right near there and may let you leave your boat there. Downwind has a pretty cool store a couple of miles away, lots of Hobie stuff, diving, kite surfing, Mtn bikes, etc.

There are still several cats in the ocean creek area of myrtle beach. That's the northern end of myrtle. There is beach access parking everywhere thru that area. N Myrtle is allowing me to leave the boat on the beach in Windy Hill for weeks at a time with no issues this year. Myrtle does ask that you let the police know where your boat is located on the beach. Residents can buy a yearly beach pass for $50 or so.
