The Bonsai Straights are a local phenomenom of increased North winds out in the Gulf Stream caused by Lake Worth sticking out eastward blocking the full force of a north wind. So, if your sitting on our beach drinking an ice cold corona feeling a 10 knot north wind and thinking about a nice mellow cruise out to the
Gulf Stream and back, think again. Take your harnesses because once you clear the tip of Lake Worth, about a mile out, the wind suddenly increases to 15-20 knots and the seas get real big with gentle giant rollers, but be careful because rouges will sneak up and each wave brings gust of it's own. It's like a roller coaster as you creep up the hills then surf down the other side, the trick is to keep going down. After a bout a half hour of this head east, get out of the stream, and fly the shoot back downwind to our beach cause the gulf stram carried you 4 miles north. Or you could sail in to Dog Beach on a beam reach and refill your cooler at the local beach store and visit Tyrone.

Yeah Chip, I live at the tip and the waves woke me up this morning. The surfers were out in full force. Good news is it brought back some of the beach.

You guy's going to try to make it down Sunday?

Anybody else interested? I plan on it, we'd have to leave early. Hey Bob and SC craig get the GPS coordinates for the race, please.

I am pretty sure the Singer Island waypoint will be just to the south of the Crown Plaza. There are a couple of swimming areas marked by buoys in front of the public beaches that the sailors have to watch out for. They should not be sailing that close to shore anyway. There is a slight chance the waypoint might be moved but the one I took was:
Latitude: N26°47.253' Longitude: W80°01.945'

I went to guestimate the coordinates for the start because I have the waypoint for Bostons and I saw a POI just to south of Bostons and low and behold it was marked Delray Beach Yacht Club. The coordinates near the ocean are:
Latitude: N26°27.427' Longitude: W80°03.517'

My roomate should be bartending at the Crowne Plaza then. Makes a mean Absolute Cranberry.

Hope to see y'all!!!
