A couple of questions regarding F-27 cap-shrouds! My boat is stock, no double-diamonds or upper capshroud kits.
1) The cap shrouds obviously need to be released from the chainplate on the amas before folding. The previous owner of my boat would take them off the chainplate, and then tie them off to the pushpit on the back of the boat. I've been doing the same, but two things I don't like - wrestling around with these things if trying to do it on the water and there's any kind of disturbance, and I noticed that the pushpit works/flexes around alot with any movement from the cap shrouds once they're tied off. I was looking at it yesterday and wondering if there's a better way to do this that people know of.
2) The block and tackle for the cap shroud adjusters are these huge fiddle blocks (Gaerhaurer? sp...). They're nicely bound and corroded, and the cam cleats are stuck bad. Unfortunately, the cam cleats seem to built in, so simply replacing them doesn't seem possible without surgery. I'd just rather replace them with something newer/better, but I wonder what the loading is for these things. The ones that are on there seem way over-sized, but maybe they need to be. Any thoughts on loads and appropriate sizing of this gear?
