Total crew and boat weight to sail ar.ratio rule =

-Basic scale uses 10 catagories of boat and crew weight .
boat w . from 320 to 420 ---420-410-400-390---etc.
crew w min.325 plus increased sail ar factors
sail area ratios adjust proportionately =to av. boat &crew weight .

max--total weight 745 -= max. main 220 –max.jib 60 –max spin 330 + % per mast allowance..—and per additional crew wgt.
min –645LB –total weight -=max main 180-max.jib 50 –max spin 270.
Note ; area may be transferred from main to jib allowing more sailplan design vatiation .

-Rule weight ratios as applied to existing cat. designs –
-Examples applied to random existing cats -
Nacra 6/0--420 design w 325 crew =745 t -----Nacra 6/0 –actual weights vary 20 LBS +or- max sail areas spin 330 +weight and mast factors to potential 350 or 368---main –220 ---jib 60
-comment –may use existing sailplan and large 348 sq ft spin –at min.325 crew weight ., or modify to larger main -jib areas per rule max.-

Inter 20 -390 - w 325 crew = 715 t ---- Inter 20 max. sail area –main 208 jib 57 ----spin. 312
comment- may use existing sailplan and modify spin to max . –Note; all teams will be allowed 2 headsails in any size below max .

Tornado . 8.5 beam -370 --+crew w 325 =695 t --main 200 –jib 55 spin 300 max –
Comment , sail area may be relocated from main to jib allowing more design variation ,---
Tornado could sail with existing sailplan w spin version and add new max chute .

-New Beaum w 350 +325 min crew =675 total ------sail ar max.-main –jib 52 –spin 282
- -comment –similar to existing Euro F-20 cats in sail area , but 70 LB lighter .

-New lightweight design –320 +325 min crew =645 ---Max sail area –main 180 –jib 50 –spin 270 –
comment –slightly smaller main and jib , -same spin as exs. Euro 20s

-Note –Hobie ,Mystere and P-19 plus all other existing and future designs are included within the ratio.

-Sailors with larger crews may add 10 sq ft of spin area per 10 LBS of crew weight –
100 LB heavier crews could add 100 sq ft of spin area.-Again all teams are allowed 2 chutes below max size per weight category .-Any team below 325 crew weight could carry up to 50 LB corrector weight, allowing min.275 LB 2 person teams to race , teams may have 3 ,for smaller crew situations ,racing with junior sailors etc.
-
-Advantages –all existing cats in N A can race as they are or modify the sailplan in a wide variety of ways to max allowed as listed per examples .
-New lighter designs may be developed as we are already seeing occur , and existing cats will stay competitive.
-We will begin the 20 fleet with large numbers of sailors already with existing boats that meet the rule .
-Sailors may modify their boat anyway they choose , different combinations of mast sails boards rudders tramp gear or hulls , -existing hulls can be refinished and made much lighter as most know.
Manufacturers may take older hull molds and apply updated materials and building techniques to produce sets much lighter .
-This is a proposed equal weight to sail area rating formula that includes all 20 ft –8.5 beam cat designs .

-marketing comment -
We so often hear sailors state that THEIR cat is BEST , and fastest . WE all sail for the love of the sport and the challenge . The attraction will be the challange of equal open competition in larger fleets ,--rather than being a big fish in a small pond of 3 or 5 limited class cats .
-To promote this class we will all have to accept the CHALLANGE-and challange others to compete with the boat of their choice modified to their personal sailing style .
