Basic proposed revisions from existing iF rules -

Min boat weight =385 ,-{based on Barry,s 388 weighing }
Any can add lighter blocks lines hardware and gear to this .

-Max mainsail =210 sq ft -existing I-20 is 208-_
{+2 over the Inter 20 , }which is 14.5 more than existing iF.

-jib 53 spin 270 sq ft -same as I-20 --{no graduated jib sizes as per iF --ONE JIB max. --Larger spin allowance increase for larger crews ---crews over 360 recieve anadded 30sq ft ,--crews over 400 LB recieve an added 60 sq ft.

Longer spin pole alum or c f and c f snuffer allowed , measured from f crossbeam .-{opt for larger chutes --heavier crews }

-Min. crew weight 325 LB {25 + more than iF}
with up to 50 lb corrector allowed by lighter teams.

-Again we need to reorganize and review all rules for N A ,
-These are the basics that we need a concensis on , lets get this rolling .
-Please vote yea or nea on this basic direction for the class , with comments , remembering not everyone will get everything they want in class rules , but we will have some great events and great racing .

Hi Carl,

Maybe we could lower that minimum boat weight a touch, maybe to 375#s all up(nice number), leaving room for tweaking and experimenting.
The minimum crew weight seems a little high to me. If we are to implement a crew weight to spi size system, why not make the minimum crew weight 300#s and work from there. 325 is a lot of weight for many husband/wife teams.
The SA proposal sounds fine to me. Those numbers must include mast profile area.

I believe in simple rules:

LOA MAX 20.08' (to satisfy existing iF20 boats)
BOA MAX 8.5'
BW MIN 375 pounds
Crew MIN 300 pounds
SA MAX 210 square feet main(including mast)
" 55 square feet jib
" 270 square feet spi(w/EU style area adjustment)
Set Max Spi pole length = ?? I'll accept anything you guys decide on.

NO OTHER RULES

For example, no mast height restrictions just like the A-class.
No construction material restrictions at all. If some one wants to build a 375# all carbon boat(waste of time), then let them. As long as they make minimum weight, the advantage is insignificant.
If you want to use a Tornado mast(tapered) go right ahead. Same with H20 masts.

I would like to see more of a developmental class just like the A-class. This is the only way to not only to have fun racing but to improve boat speed on 20 foot catamarans. Maybe some day the minimum BW could be lowered to 325#s.

Just my ramblings...
marc
