The most famous Hobie sailor in Puerto Rico is Enrique Figueroa, and in addition to Hobies, he also races a Tornado and all sorts of other boats, monohull and multihull. But I would assume that Hobies are the most common beach cats in Puerto Rico, so why wouldn't you contact the Hobie fleet for the scoop on the sailing scene? | | | Re: Beach Cat sailing in Puerto Rico

Posts: 22 San Juan, Puerto Rico | Hey Robi: I used to sail a TheMightyHobie18 mostly in the South (Salinas) part of the island. I did the 2001 Heineken regatta and a couple of beachtcats-only regattas. I heard that sailing in general is doing a comeback in PR; The local olympic committee is sponsoring seminars and other sailing related activities for kids. Dinghies fleets are relatively big and windsurfing is still very popular but beachcats are almost extinct, however PR still produces great H16 sailors. Beachcat sailing in PR was very big during the 80s but increasing beach access restriction and regulations basically kill the sport. If you’re looking for places to sail while vacationing in PR, I’ll suggest to go to Fajardo or the East part of the island. Cat rental is scarce, I knew a guy that rents couple of decent H16s & H14 in Rio Grande, but that was a long time ago. I guess you’re living in the US now, Have you ever live in PR? By your boat name "Taino" I though you were from PR, but then again, Tainos also lived in Florida as well I’m now living in VA, I moved here 2 years ago. Loved the snow ~Jaime

Posts: 2,718 St Petersburg FL | This comment is what ignited my rude reply. Man, you must not have looked very hard: If I offended anyone, specially you Mary I apologize. I did not mean to come across like a rude a**hole I did look up and down. I have been searching for a few months now. Thats the only site I found that is worth it. It seemed to me that they are strictly HOBIES, hence I posted this question. Maybe I should have mentioned it in my initial post. If you contact the Hobie fleet, they will be glad to answer your questions. I am sorry Mary but isnt this forum for that? To Provide info if anyone has a question? any question? Sure I can contact the Hoibe fleet directly, but I thought I would get a more casual reply here. I am not looking for anything official. Guer J: I lived in Ponce, for 21 years. I sailed out of la Playa De Ponce. You must know what a chalana is if you are from Salinas. I sailed an Erickson 34 back in those days. Do you remember the Discover The Carribean series? Those were hell of fun. Did that since I was 12 years old. I ask this question, because I know for a fact, there isnt any good bays to go sailing in the North Shore. The North Shore is mostly surfing. The surf conditions can be extremely risky at times. The south side of the island almost always has good breaze throughout the year, and the waves can pick up also. I may be moving to Puerto Rico in 2006, a Coast Guard transfer, and I wanted to get with the program. But I guess I will have to contact the hobie fleet downthere. | | | Re: Beach Cat sailing in Puerto Rico

Posts: 552 | Robi and all. go to www.caribbeanracing.comThe regattas are all there. There are beach cat divisions in 99% of them. For examples, we just finished the St. Croix International Regatta. Day 2 was alittle too wild for me, plus I had the flu,..so I pulled out. Day 3 was cancelled for extreme winds and waves. This was a first for us. I suspect the mono's got beat up..... 1st - Anton - H16 - Puerto Rico 2nd - Bruce - P19mx - St. Thomas 3rd - Tom - Tornado - St. Croix ...I raced 1 day,...finished 5th overall.. here are some pics for you.. http://www.caribbeanracing.com/cgi-...g=36&tt=&tfile=tn_stx05_0912.jpg...water temp 78 f, air temp 85 f,.....enjoy! regards, Bruce St. Croix | | |
