Last weekend I sailed in the Round the Bay Race in Michigan and Ohio.
I still have not finished my F14 project yet, so sailed the Wave with a Hooter (needs more sail area, however)

At any rate, I had no problem winning the high dpn class, but was totally surprised to be first overall for all classes.
On the other hand, I know why. The handicap if bases on time on time. And the entire fleet sat in no wind for about three or four hours. All that time clicking away was just helping me.
The wind picked up for the finish of the last 15 miles or so, and all the boats were not that far ahead at the finish.
So, a victory for the little boats. Outrageous, huh? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Congrats Rick! You can make that Wave move in anything, though. I've been there.

I just did the Duck Cup in NC a few weeks ago on my H14. Saturday was a practice day, so we did buoys. I had a great time in pretty decent wind but went turbo.

Sunday was rough. It was supposed to be a 20 mile triangle around the sound, but we had to tack 4 times to get to the upwind mark, so it had to be like 30 miles. I decided to F14 it, but couldn't use the Hooter until the downwind leg because it was blowing around 18. After fighting for hours to get up wind, I finally got to let the big sail out and hang on for dear life. I blew a jibe at about 100 yards from the finish line and flipped. I managed to get it back up right away, but flipped again at about 50 yards form the finish. I couldn't get it back over and had to get help, which DSQd me. Man, I could have drifted over the finish line on my side--which seems to be proper sailing position for my boat!! I would have gotten third place if I just hadn't flipped that last time.

I couldn't believe how much time I made up on the 16s going down wind with that Hooter. I was sailing deep to be careful, but I made up for the lost time ont he upwind leg. Bottom line is I had fun and I think the F14 is a great boat for distance races!!

Hi Dan,
Perhaps you ought to add a Hobie Bob to the top of the mast. I remember in Georgia one of you guys went turtle and had to have help.., and when he went over he was on the way to a first place finish.
