I'm learning set up and parts identification on this '88 Hobie '16 and it has two mast stays on each side. Is this a widely used configuration, what I've heard is most have only 1 per side? I also am in need of a new main halyard wire and two trap seats. Should I buy these new or used?

Thanks and wishing for wind.......

You don't need Trapseats unless you are a sailor with a disAbility, but Trapseat are nice if you live in an area with strong winds or if you what a lot of comfort. Like I have been telling other H16 sailors on this forum if you want a set of Trapseats you better contact me now as the batch of Trapseats we building now are going to the Trapeat Worlds event and we only have a few left. And I don't know when we will build the next batch of Trapseats, we usually build 20 to 40 sets. So email me at info@sail-s.com if you want a set.

Visit Hobiecat.com and order a catalogue. It will have diagrams and parts lists for your cat. Hobie will not sell directly to the public, so you must locate a dealer. I've never heard of two side stays per side. I would guess one is a trapeze wire. Trapeze harnesses are listed in the hobie catalogue, but I am sure there are lots of sources for them.

Glad to hear you are going to experience the joys of sailing.

Greg has got to be right about your shroud wires. The heavier gauge wire is your shroud and the lighter one would be your trap wire. I have found the best source for parts and other stuff to be Murrays. They are on the west coast but will ship anywhere. Check out the web site,www.murrays.com-----Good luck with your boat, this sailing stuff is way to much fun!!

Yes, I do have two stays and two trap wires on each side. One buddy says it may have installed as a reinforcement.

On the harnesses should I buy the harness alone or one integrated into a vest?
