Thank you, Art, for explaining it, and I suspected that might be the case.

I am still wondering, though, whether this Open Gold Cup event is open to adults, too; or is it a youth-only event? I am assuming it is open to everybody.

Art,

Thanks for your continued work in this area. I'm going to try to convince a local youth team to apply.

Is this reaction because a plane may fly from NY to Paris and not from Buenos Aires or any other Major capital from Latin America?

This type of remark does NOT deserve a reply, but today I have the time...

A stranger posted something that looks like a scam, so I warned that it looks like a scam. Genuine deals may look like scams. There is no offense in the warning.

If you want to know why I warn about scams, take a look at the first (fixed) post in this forum and see how many real problems were avoided due to simmilar warnings.

The idea is to protect the forum, the market and Rick and Mary's business, so please think twice before complaining against a valid warning.

Does anybody know what the word "open" in Open Gold/World Cup stands for ; if not allowing adults?

According to Art, this event is just for youth teams ages 15-19. No adults. Yes, the word "Open" is a bit misleading. Maybe they are thinking in terms of the way some classes are described for the ISAF Worlds and the Olympics, where "Open" means it is open to both males and females.

Thanks Mike,
Please don't forget to encourage them come to the US Youth Multihull Championships in Miami July 13-16th on H16's. We expect a great turn out and the organizers, Andrea Livingston, her brother Jamie, Linda Evans and all the members at the club are working very hard to make this the best Multihull Championship ever.

The week after is the Hobie youth regatta in New York, so it's a one two punch for kids sailing Multihulls this summer.

We will have the SL16 there so everyone gets to sail it with spinnaker. Next year we expect to use this boat for our championship regatta so kids should be getting spinnaker experience in anticipation.

Check out the Alter Cup reports. Blowing 20-25 kts and our youth team is hanging in there on a very powerful boat. They had to carry 40 lbs of weight to meet minimum. Check out the crew list and see a number of youth from our championships. Watch out adults, the kids are at your heels.
What fun stuff.........

According to Didier Chaussonniere, president of Sirena, which is the master builder and distributor of the SL16, this Open Gold Cup event IS open to adults, as well, and to owners of SL16's.

However, that has nothing to do with what Art Stevens is doing as far as getting youth sailors to the event. That is the primary purpose of the event and of the class itself.

I can attest that these boys have an outstanding attitude and have been awed by the boat. They are terrific competitors with a terrific outlook and we are honored to have them here.
