I recently purchased a new mast base fitting from Bob Keeley (ex Ronstan casting)which has a pivot point a bit further rearward than I had seen on the newer base fittings. The design won't allow drilling further forward because there is limited thickness and just won't provide enough strength.

While this will probably be a good spare I would like to get a newer design base so that I can drill and tap it further forward to provide more consistent mast rotation especially when running or on a broad reach. Does anyone have a contact for the newer mast bases ? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I would also like to get a good set of new spreaders as seen on the most recent builds. Would these also be available from the same source ?

Hi Peter

For the mast base go to AHPC (5443 6910). They supply the base and a pin separately for you to drill and assemble. They have just about everything else you need for a Mozzie mast as well, except spreaders.

For the spreaders it's Goolwa Masts & Welding in SA - phone number 0414 552 038. I had less success there. Many weeks went by and they still hadn't looked at making the spreaders I ordered - too busy rigging masts for lead-mines. In the end I gave up and used the spreaders off my old mast.

It would be good to find a local engineering shop that can do aluminium welding but you have to go through the process of finding the aerofoil shaped arms from somewhere and explaining what it is you need. At Goolwa you can just ask for "Mosquito spreaders" and give them the rake measurement you want. Simple, if only they would just do it!

Tim,

Thanks for the feedback. I already have a pin Asm from AHPC a few seasons ago. Now for the most important question: what spreader rake angle do I ask for ?

Tim,

Received new AHPC new base blank today. Very prompt turnaround. Cost $55.00 plus $8.50 postage. Keely Holdings mast base blank $29.65.

Would you be happy to list these prices on the Mozzie website ?

Regards,

Peter Foulsum
