My Favorite YouTube Sailing Video.. - 10/01/0802:23 PM
Hi Guys and Gals,
I just wanted to share with you my favorite Sailing clip from YouTube. This upbeat clip always get's me exited about the world of sailing. Lots of Tri's and Cat's, I think there's a Tornado as well.
Re: My Favorite YouTube Sailing Video.. - 12/30/0803:02 PM
This is one of my favorites....hanging a kite-board kite off the front of a beach cat and hanging on....and in the warm water of Hawaii.....waaaa hoooo:
Re: My Favorite YouTube Sailing Video.. - 01/03/0910:30 AM
I giggle every time I watch this video. Watching the kite sailors and the wind surfers flying along and then the big Tri pass like they're standing still, and then the wake boarding behind the obviously not powered up tri is even better!!!
Re: My Favorite YouTube Sailing Video.. - 01/04/0901:37 PM
I've got a 14 min high resolution report on this very event. It is about 70 MB in windows media file format.
I has most of the footage seen in the 4 min youtube clip plus additional footage and interviews with various windsurfers, sailors and explanations. Especially on how the orma 60's are lifted clear of the water on their curved foils at these speeds. Language is French however.
If anybody is interested or has some 70 mb of free space on their webpage then I'll be willing to upload this file.
Re: My Favorite YouTube Sailing Video.. - 06/16/0910:11 AM
hi all, been impressed enough with everyone's cat sailing videos that i've tried to make my own
not particularly good sailing sequences but i was having such fun with the included video editing software on my borrowed macbook that i wanted to get something out
uploaded to vimeo instead of youtube because of youtube's new policy of deleting unauthorised soundtracks
plus vimeo is higher quality and viewers can download the video if they like
Re: My Favorite YouTube Sailing Video.. - 06/16/0910:46 AM
Nice vinyls on that sail. And on that hull. Is that the same boat as the one you posted back in the days ? If it is you've cleaned up that boat really well since!
Re: My Favorite YouTube Sailing Video.. - 06/16/0911:52 AM
yes, same boat after a lot of thought and hours but very little money
as all the graphics were painted on with basic enamel paint, even the sail!
boat name was made on computer with office's chiller font, each letter printed off as a whole page A4, then blown up to A3 on a copier and cut out to act as a stencil
"nacra 5.2" on stern was photographed from the peeling factory sticker amidships and then printed/enlarged/cut out as a stencil
nacra on mast same, but letters were enlarged further and arranged vertically, (idea copied from capricorn?)
white tiger head ripped off from sailing anarchy's flying tiger boat, copied to A4, into 1cm grid and then grid enlarged 10 times and transferred to sail(with permission of bob perry)
and eyes on inner bows copied from those guys that crossed the atlantic on a 20foot cat a year or 2 ago
so not very original but it has certainly jazzed up an all white boat with white sail into something better looking than the pile of moldy green parts i was offered piled under a tree 3 years ago

Re: My Favorite YouTube Sailing Video.. - 06/16/0902:42 PM
Thanks guys ..... I can't wipe the smile off my face.
The "Defilee Petit Navire" always makes me just want to go sailing .... FAST!!!!
Eric, your vid is great .... and you pointed out what my boat needs .... "eyes" to keep the evil spirits away. Loved the sound track, who is it???
So now you got me in the mood .... this weekend a beach cat race .... then all of July I'll be racing on a 43' Corsair Tri (Triple Threat) ..... Yaa-Hoo
Thanks for "Pumping me up" ..... Look out you "Monomorans"
Re: My Favorite YouTube Sailing Video.. - 06/16/0903:17 PM
I'm with Karl... is there a sequel planned where we find out if that hat makes it?
Nicely done - best looking 5.2 I've seen in a long time. One minor critique - center that traveler going upwind. The breeze looked very manageable - travel down that couple of inches when your still overpowered with full cunningham on.
Re: My Favorite YouTube Sailing Video.. - 06/16/0908:29 PM
I thought for a moment you were going to demonstrate a solo MOB maneuver with the hat. Nice 5.2, and cool vid! Mine looks lots and lots worse. Me want more, me want more (etc)

Love the videos on www.youtube.com/user/itstillertime Great video of an RC 33, radio controlled cat, and the best learn-to-sail video for catamarans ever.

She does make a purty video (in both substance and aesthetics)
Re: My Favorite YouTube Sailing Video.. - 06/16/0910:55 PM
no, i'm afraid the hat was history
but then what the lake takes away it gives back again, while kayaking around i've pulled out lots of hats, a wind breaker, life jacket, the fenders i use as boat rollers etc
the iMovie software on the mac was very intuitive, the only time i had to hit F1 for help was in fading out the soundtrack. the title, ending, fade outs etc. are built in to software. even the tiger roar and growl are standard sound effects inside iMovie
music is a track called "thrills" by an odd ball group called "cake" that i quite like. bit of an in joke as the community here was founded by missionaries
i think the traveller is as centered as possible, but can trap lower
the camera is an pentax optio w60, made a little box for it that was strapped to the lower mast for some clips and also some clips with it mounted on a tin plate screwed to the front of an old bicycle helmet
hoping to get the camera on the spreaders and at mast top this year
Re: My Favorite YouTube Sailing Video.. - 06/17/0907:57 AM
Capricorns have a strap that attaches to the board half way down so that a pull on it at the right time will lift the leeward board from the windward side. Nifty. It has now made an appearance on Infusions too.

thanks for the encouragement
Odd ball group?? That's my brother in law your talking about. I'm sure he's glad you like the music though.
Re: My Favorite YouTube Sailing Video.. - 06/17/0912:52 PM
I like Cake! both the group and the chocolate kind!
The band made a great reamake of the song from the Muppet's (at least thats how i know the song) called "Mahna Mahna" check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypVe2DbhxXQ

And Wildcats and Tigers...
Sorry fellas - that was an A-cat thing long before it showed up on an F18. It's even niftier to see someone pop the leeward board from the windward hull.

Colin, I really hate to ask, BUT how at approx 3:36 did you guys go from flying a hull to capsized on the other side??? A blown tack, but maybe because you were TOO aggressive on the Roll Tack Stuff??? All Joking aside, can anyone tell me what went wrong??? I'm always willing to TRY To Learn from others mistakes (But usually, I have to repeat them a few dozen times myself)!

In this video let the scenery sink in. It is a quiet video but the seastate is enormous. Note that this ORMA tri is doublehanded ! No other crew then Alain and Michel. After 4:20 this video is also a good example of the right music that isn't some kind of power rock (as typical with sailind videos)
The part from 4:20 to the end is just a beautiful piece of video. And the song Text fits really well at times. Starts out with\

And the big tri is going full on lifted to it leeward hull splashing over big waves.

Very nice! Looks to be running 8 - 15 ft. and they are at times flying from top to top -- awesome!

We were flying the chute and stuffed. I lost my hold in the foot strap and became seperated from the boat. I actually pulled it over on top of me as I was shriping.

You're getting good, Erice.
And I can't get the music out of my head...
The other day at work, we were arguing about some over-involved project that I thought was a waste of time and everyone else didn't. At the end, I threw up my hands and said:
Look, man is born, man lives, man dies. And all is vanity.
