Slip to Ship Info and Early Registration! - 05/07/09 03:19 PM

Well, we are 16 days away from the Slip to Ship Regatta (May 23-24, 2009). This is a fun two day distance regatta in its 24th year. It is a blast and we are ready to put S2S "Back on the Map."

I have listed the top three reasons not to miss it this year.

1. New club: Katrina be damned. We now have a beautiful facility, full kitchen, fuller bar expansive balcony.

2. New management/New Value: With the openning of the new building, we have sailors at the helm. We have heard your complaints and are responding.
Entry Fee: $50.00 (single handed), $60.00 (double handed). Late registration (after May 15, 2009) will be an additional $10.00. Entry fee will include the following:
a. a custom S2S regatta t-shirt for you and your crew (if applicable)
b. contintental breakfast Saturday morning
c. Beer and chicken out on the Island
d. A Saturday Cajun dinner extrodinaire created by Robbie Halstad;
e, An automatic entry in the sailor's door prize;
f. Two Raffle tickets for the raffle;

3. Old school: We remember what makes a regatta fun: good wind, good food, good drink and friends. This year, we are striving to bring back the fun from the days of old. Call it our Reggatta stimulus package.

Remember, camping is permitted on our grounds.

Please fax or email your completed registration to fleetcaptain@osyc.com or (228) 865-7885. Also, while our physical address is 100 Front Beach, Ocean Springs. Please send all mail to P.O. Box 821, Ocean Springs, MS 39564

Please get your registration form in early to avoid the $10.00 late fee. I would also appreciate an email just to help us guage the number os sailors to plan for.

More information can be found at www.osyc.com

See you on the water.

The forecast for this weekend is calling for an east wind... If it holds true we are looking at a run down the casio channel and a reach out to the island! We typically have a south wind and it is an 8 mile beat to the island. We could see some really fast times this year!

Andrew. YOu are right. While we were concerned about the front over Florida developing...that has fizzled out. Over the past 24 hours, both the wind and wave forecasts have decreased to very managable and fast sailing conditions. While we will probably get a little wet on Saturday...the ride will be worth it.

Also, I wanted to share with the racers that we will have great sailor door prizes and an incredible raffle Saturday night including for example: Ruth Chris Steak House, APS, West Marine, IP Casino...to name a few. The Grand Prize is a two night stay at a swank resort in Destin, FL with a fishing trip (or round of golf) for two. That is a $900 package. I am stoked.

I hope that everyone will make it.

Re: Slip to Ship Info and Early Registration! - 05/21/09 03:39 PM

What are you taking to tie the boat down? cry

A couple of 2x4s buried in the sand and tied to the trapeze wires makes a good tie down. Tighten the mast rotation so the wing mast doesn't oscillate, too.

Have fun!

we use tree augers (about $12 at acehardware) here. they seem to work very well.. but nothing will hold down a boat in gale winds

Shooooooot....15 knots isn't that a "freshening breeze". I am going to dial the N20 down. Diamond tension about 700-800. Any thoughts. (Me 185 crew 150)

You are correct, I was thinking of today's forecast...Saturday's looks good, if it doesn't guest like crazy anyway...

I heard that the regatta(I think at Bay Saint Louis?) had some weird conditions like that. Blowing about 10-13knots and then all of a sudden you get some nasty 17-20knot winds...nasty....

Lets hope that won't be the case this weekend. Of course, I won't be there, my family made plans that I really should attend. smile

Re: Slip to Ship Info and Early Registration! - 05/22/09 10:39 AM

The wind forecast keeps dropping but the chance of rain on Saturday is still high. Damn the torpedos..full steam ahead.

An area of low pressure will slowly move northwest across the northern Gulf towards the central Gulf Coast through Saturday and early Sunday. This will continue to cause moderate to strong east northeast and easterly winds through Friday night. Winds will slack off on Saturday.

Small Craft Advisory in effect through Saturday morning
Forecast as of 4:00 am CDT on May 22, 2009
Coastal Waters From Pascagoula Ms To The Southwest Pass Of The Mississippi River Out 20 Nm-
Saturday
Southeast winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 3 to 5 feet subsiding to 1 to 3 feet in the afternoon. Protected waters a light to moderate chop. Showers and thunderstorms.
Saturday Night
South winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet. Protected waters a light to moderate chop. Numerous showers and thunderstorms.
Sunday
South winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 1 to 3 feet. Protected waters a light to moderate chop. Showers and thunderstorms likely.

What is the word guys? Has the weather laid down any? Pcola Beach has seen a dramatic decrease in swells and wind. It is turning out to be a nice day here (or the mid-afternoon beers are taking affect).

I have a vested interest.. someone speak up!!! grin

Re: Slip to Ship Info and Early Registration! - 05/27/09 01:57 PM

A great time was had by all! Despite the threatening tropical system, we had 33 registered boats enjoy the new club. Check out the results at www.osyc.com (under the racing information tab). Saturday's winds required a shortening of the course. I was running with spin in the high teens and low 20's and most of the fleet experienced interesting capsizes, what a blast. Sunday was solid as well. Duly Chaltain on his newly invogorated P19 "Dragon Slayer" smoked the 22 mile Dear Island Race and won the Inaguaral "Round Dear" perpetual (fastest corrected time).

The Saturday night raffle and door prizes seemed to be a big hit as well. Hope to see everyone at the Horn Island Hop (July 4-5). I'll get the NOR up this week.
