Fitting Toe Straps to Nacra 6.0 NA/ Fiting Screacher - 08/25/09 10:07 PM

I am about to do this. What meat do people add inside the boat to spread the loads?
Considering glassing in an aluminum plate. Any suggestions welcome.

Also, I am about to order a screacher from Calverts. Any photos and specs of the pole mounting and the pole itself are welcome. I have purchase harken small boat furler for it.
Cheers lads

some 1 inch (25mm) stainless steel washers should be more than enough. the forces involved are really not that huge as you really only want a toe strap that will let your foot out at the first sign of trouble.
I would rather have the crew take off around the bow than a serious ankle injury because they had their foot too deep into the footstrap.

When I put foot straps on my N20, I cut about 1" squares out of a 3" diameter PVC pipe. the radius of the PVC pieces roughly matched the inside of the hull. then I used washers inside of it. I also glued pieces of bicycle tube to the side of the PVC where it would butt up against the hull and used plenty of silicone. Never a drop of water in the hulls from the foot straps.

I would think that as long as the straps are adjusted so that the person can't put their foot in further than the ball of the foot, they can use it without breaking their ankle if things go afoul...

I had the 1" washers backing mine, but I like Karl's suggestion. Those park-n-rec dudes are pretty smart...
