F16 Apparel Logo - 12/20/06 11:38 AM

Following on from Eric's thread. How would you best describe an F16 and their owners in Logo terms. The better one might get printed on a Tee-Shirt!! For instance here are a couple of sad ones;
Sticks and stones may break my bones but F16's excite me
or
F16's are for Life and not just for Christmas.
I think you get the idea.

Re: F16 Apparel Logo - 12/21/06 12:50 PM

I think we should have nothing EXCEPT F16.

Gets people wondering and asking questions.

Also prevents the piss being extracted.

It's far better to get people to ask questions !

I've seen a few good phrases in the past

The Hurricane 5.9 fleet had a good tag line "when fast isn't fast enough" - this was at the time when the 5.9 was rated faster than the Tornado and so it was the fastest boat on the water !

We are not the fastest, slowest, widest, thinnest, longest or shortest, so lets just keep it simple !

How about "Sail Light, Sail Fast, Sail F16"

Hi all,

what about the one on the back of my trailer,

F16 The High Performance Formula.

It kind of came from the early class name, but has a dig at F18 without being too obvious I hope.

Exactly my point above. Classes that are lighter or faster will just trump us !

Some Ideas.

Family:
"Family Fun F16."

Risky:
"Our Competitors call us F'n F16." (as written)
"I like to F on a F16." (Follows the fun, fad etc theme)
"Barely Legal (F)16."

Nice:
"Sweet 16, F16."
"Favorite Feline - F16."

All a bit cheesy but some ideas non the less.

Re: F16 Apparel Logo - 12/23/06 09:19 AM

Hi Steve,

don't have to worry about those higher performance classes you mentioned in OZ, as far as I know they don't exist here.

So maybe we will make it the Motto for OZ only, see attachment for photo of the back of my trailer. Come to think of it I might put it on the back of my boat as well, so you can get a better look at it.

Regards Gary.

P.S. Hope your work up to the Worlds is going well, Good Luck.

Re: F16 Apparel Logo - 12/23/06 09:50 AM

Hey guys,

Currently there is NO other class that is both lighter AND faster then F16 !

The M20 is faster but not lighter
The A-cat is lighter but not faster

etc.

Maybe the T-shirt should say :

Sail F16 !

Both lighter AND faster

And then on the front :"whats up with the midgets ?" With a picture of gnomes rigging and cleaning your F16.

That will surely get a few sailors asking about the F16 class.

Weight is also relative to size....... There are F boats that are a little heavier (due to extra LOA) but much quicker than an F16.

The F16 is as far as I know, the lightest and fastest in its class however you can also say that nothing is lighter and faster than the AO F14...... Same goes with the 18 and 20 footers

Lets see...... If the F16 is quicker than the A Class which rates at 71, and is as quick as an F18 rating at 70...... Then why don't we lobby the YA to change the YVC to 70??????

Now back to the class catch phrase.....

F16..... Light Speed sailing.

Bit of a play on words as in Light (weight) speed and Light Speed = f@#ckin quick.

Re: F16 Apparel Logo - 12/24/06 08:41 AM

I really like "Light Speed Sailing" as it is straight forward, fairly short, and can be understood multiple ways, eg lightweight speed sailing OR (speaking in hyperbole) sailing at the speed of light.

Using superlatives (ie light...est; fast...est, etc) is dangerous in the long run and just annoys the other classes unnecessarily.

Re: F16 Apparel Logo - 12/24/06 01:28 PM

I guess the 'sailing on the edge' has already been done ...
But I'm not sure, so I'm posting it anyway.

Does anyone have the F16-logo in a higher resolution than on the site ?
I'm thinking of making a license plate sticker (where you normally find a sticker of your garage).

Regards,
Gilo

Good call but this was a classic David and Goliath day, unfortunately they happen all too rarely. As for the playground Mumbles was named by the Vikings due to a couple of tit shaped islands off the headland. Nowadays, the local cat sailors call it the 'G' spot.

Should not be a rare occurance in those conditions..... The light weight F16s will humble many boats in that breeze. My experiences have been that the F18s and Ts don't seem to stretch their legs until they pull 2 strings. Fortunatly for us, here in OZ we are blessed with good breeze more times than not.

Just looking at pic 3 with the Stealth in front of the 2 F18s.... The Stealth up front has the skipper sitting at the front beam, whist the 2 F18s look to be sitting right at the back, dragging the transoms?????

Yea, you're right. We were still in the lee of the land behind us but I can assure you that once we got further out into the bay 'close to the bottom of the google earth page' both the swell and prevailing westerly wind picks up quite dramatically.

My point was that is "Carlsberg ?" relates to beer as A-cats to cat sailing then that may not be very kind to the A-cats. How many have really heard of Carlsberg ?
