Lake Como, F16 Europeans

Lake Como, F16 Europeans - 03/06/10 08:18 PM

from Bundock-Brouwer twitter feed:"F16 Europeans @ Lake Como, Italy from July 18-23. Brilliant location! Set to be the best F16 regatta yet. Are you coming?"

Seems to implies they are going. I'm not sure I should anymore: I'm going to get a spanking. I guess they will need someone to be last...

So who's going?

Looking forward to it.

Undecided if I will be helming, crewing for someone or just providing factory support and sitting on a coach boat passing on a few tips. Thoughts?

Hoping it going to be a social regatta, rather than to serious.

I don't need much of a excuse to go to Lake Como.

Hope its going to be a well attended regatta to boost the F16 scene in Europe. See you all there (I hope).

Someone gi'us a job! smile

If I could just find gainful employment I'd be there like a shot! mad
I think it's going to be a wonderful regatta - social with a bit of competition. I love the Italian Lakes, the food, the wine ....... ahh bugger! Life's just not fair! frown

Why not sailing solo?

This said I sure could use the tips smile But doesn't this count as "outside assistance"?

And don't be to worried about this being too serious. We are mostly rubbish at sailing, but we can hold our liquor.

Will there be any AHPC charters available? I wanted to do the hobie europeans there last year, but I figured it would cost me $6-7k to do the event. Airfare being the biggest financial hurdle. I couldn't find anything round trip for less than $3k. Now I'm thinking I might be able to pull the trip off.

Andi, where have you been hiding? Is the ice off the Bodensee yet? Are you doing some skiing?

Be good! And where is Martin? Tell him the killer whale he saw at Sea World killed it's trainer! Good thing he didn't jump in the tank!

Re: Lake Como, F16 Europeans - 03/10/10 05:25 PM

Well, I have got a leave pass from the long haired admiral so provided I can sail the boat without hitting anyone shocked , I'll be there.....on second thoughts, that's what insurance is for, so I'll be there anyway grin

Just the small matter of picking up the boat tomorrow and clearing through Belgian and German customs. Oh, and learning how to sail a solo spin cat on my postage stamp sized lake! Hopefully I can find some guys to tune against, there's some very mouldy F18s there but a very shiny A Class which would be a good sparring partner.

Look forward to meeting you all there.

Dan,

I've been racing some A-cat guys in the past and they are great sparring partners. Upwind they should be faster but that keeps you focussed on how to get faster. If they are not over halfway way down when you get to the upwind mark and hoist the spinnaker, you should be able to beat them to the line.

Gill

Gill, thanks for the advice, I think I am going to be needing a lot of it!

I think the Euros will be a great opportunity to learn, I amy come last but a week just racing the boat and picking up advice will be awesome.

Lake Como is a location I always figured would be an excellent location for an event.

After completing the windturbine research assignment I'm looking at getting my boat seriously wet again this year.

I may have to borrow a ride down to Como as I'm afraid that I had to scrap my car frown

Well, lots can happen over the next months !

I'm sure finding a crewing position for you will NOT be a problem ! grin

Which skipper will not consider dumping his regular crew in an instant in order to sail with a god ? (all in jest of course !)

Personally, I would prefer to see another crew on the line even if that crew does lap me more then once per race. So please come and race.

I agree with the other poster though; come do the event 1-up ! That should even things up a bit unless you are also very skilled in single-handing a spinnaker boat.
