Posts: 3,116 Annapolis, MD | Seems to me… that with the number of racers around the country … we just don’t warrant a one design class of either N20’s or F18’s or any other 2 person spin boat in any regatta. (what events have had 10 or more boats this season ???)
Don’t you think that the racing scene would be more successful if we put all of the 2 man spin boats in one class and scored on Portsmouth or ISAF (Texel) around the country and stopped this zero sum game? Why continue to pretend that we are growing these classes ???
So… assuming that you have A , B and C fleet sailors on all of the different brands/classes of boats… What’s better???… One race scored on handicap or lots of 3-5 boat one design races?
I think that the competition between the top helms in different classes (and all the way down the pecking order) is what makes the regatta fun and memorable. My argument is that competition is what the racers want. Our current strategy is not delivering this!
So, for example, in California, the Hobie 16 NA’s are in town this summer and that is where the sailing action is… so the F18 sailors are back on their 16’s and the F18’s may… (or may not) revive next year.
Oops... I forgot... this thread is about CATFIGHT...gee... isn't my proposal how they run Catfight!
