Hi all,

Anybody got any old "servicable" rudders lying around they'd like to swap for some cash?

I broke one at the states on the weekend and the effort to fix it is probably not worth it given that they are about at their "use by" anyway. (timber swing down type)

New ones not in this years boat budget so I'm just looking for something to get me through the season.

Cheers

Thanks Peter,

I just recently bought some boards (yet to fit) from Joseph and and was intending to get some rudders for next season.

Should have bought the rudders first.

I think I've managed to repair the broken one and will test it this weekend. If it works, I'll get some newbies later in the year.

Re the photos... Does Joseph do the full assembly as per the photos or does he just do the blades and cheeks?

Cheers, and thanks again.

Simon,
In answer to your question, yep. Joey put them together and delivered them as the pic's show. He has done a great job.
Peter.

Thanks Peter,

They are clearly the best solution. Just a matter of available cash. Could you "pm" me the cost or let me know if you'd prefer me to phone Joseph direct.

Cheers

G'day
Does any body now how much they are (as per picture).
and also have contact details. phone number???
PS, do the rudder boxes have any bend in them for Acumen angle. Is there any noticable benifit to having a slight bend for acumen angle.
Thank you
Karl

Karl,

The pic's don't show it very well, but they do have a acumen angle.

Theoretically yes but there is no noticeable difference. Its vital for cars as they have good grip on the road via the tires so without ackerman steering geometry the steering tires will be damaged and the vehicle will understeer . The water the rudders move through allows some relative slip between rudders so the cat can turn without damaging its rudders and the lose of speed through the extra drag is a small percentage of an already low number because it has most effect when you are tacking. It would have more effect on a wider cat, might be worthwhile on a Tornado and definitely on the large round the world cats.

The major advantage in having the rudders set up using the Ackerman principle is that they remain close to parallel when they are turned.....and altho' no great difference is felt they do reduce the drag.

Guess it is personal preferrence whether one goes to the effort of working out the centre of radius to maintain the parallel blades but in the end ?????
