As to not hijack the "LEAK" thread, i am posting a new thread.
How do you "jam" on your boat?
I used to carry a $20 Walgreen’s boom box in a gear bag but it had issues. it was a dial tuner so it was hard to change stations while sailing, its volume was a dial in the rear of the box so same problem. Also for some reason the batteries would not seat well and needed to be smacked and shaken often... very frustrating..
I currently have waterproof earplugs and a little case for my I Pod but the wires are annoying, and i fear not hearing other boats (power)....
what do you use? Pics would be great.

somewhere between a beam & broad reach in anything above 15 knots. Even faired rudders will start singing...it's beautiful music! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Why on earth would you want to listen to anything other than your boat, the boats around you and the sea???? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

AGREE!!! If we wanted noise we would have a DAMM gas burner. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> RIGHT!!! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Nothing more peaceful than flying across the water with nothing but the sound of water coming of hulls and rudders and the wind in your face. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I do enjoy the sound of the water, the hum of my rigging at speed and especially the lack of engine noise.. but at times i very much enjoy hearing music too...

When its not blowing and you're up to your eyeballs in sheets and having to trim constantly I just kick on the stereo <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> Then the party starts.
Of course on a Stiletto you can have a nice party! Otherwise the wind is the music.

We sail with a local who has 12 volt drycells in his H21 hulls for lighting (Above and below the waterline), music, his trolling motor (he launches from a ramp) and running his camping gear. They camp all the time (hence all the gear onboard) and he can BLAST tunes from his speakers. He has them on deck and on his spreaders.. He has beautiful Pink Floyd sails and is a mobile concert... it is very cool..
i PERSONALLY dont want 150 lbs of battery onboard... but it is nice to have power.

Yeah somewhat, it gets wet but it really doesn't want to! I also have a Sony similiar to the attached pic that survived a capsize on my previous Hobie. The new ones are also water resistant.

I have a waterproof cooler with a built-in CD/radio. The best of both worlds! Keep the beer cold and be able to jam. I normally don't listen while sailing - just when we beach up and hang out. It's strapped to the front of the tramp under the wishbone and away from the downhaul lines.
... Or if the wind totally dies on me and I have to paddle a mile or two back to port. The music can at least make that bareable.

...unnerving to hear someone else's boat jamming "best of Dukes of Hazard" tunes.
Hey hey hey, Team Seacats just got an orange boat called the General Lee AND I have permission to use Molly Hatchet's music for videos (they did most of the soundtrack to the recent movie - and "Flirting with Disaster" works pretty well).

I've been working this one in my head for years. In between races, or if the wind dies on the course would be great times to have some tunes. http://keepon.timex.com/icontrol/ Check out this watch. It is a wireless remote for an iPod! If you put your iPod in a sealed box with small water proof speaker snug up against the cross bars you'd have a nice little system.

Other than your comment about not hearing other boats, what's wrong with the earbud?
The wires get in the way... i already have a tiller, main and jib sheet in my hands (when on the wire) and dont need more stuff flapping around me... I have tried running the wires under my clothing/pfd but they kept pulling down and popping out the earplugs.
It does work and is manageable but i am looking for options and what to hear what others do.
As per hearing other boats... i can hear other cars honk when i play my car radio.. I dont like super loud music, and i am sure i have a much better chance of hearing a power boat comming towards me with a radio vs water tight earplugs playing audio.
i have had powerboats and state park water shuttle's sneak up behind me when i had no audio going.. i prefer to not have earplugs in...
OH YEA!>>> No Dukes of Haz theme songs here (sorry Merle Haggard).... more like Janes Addiction, Jimmi H, Bob Marley, etc)...

Now, add to the water and wind just a touch of Billie Holiday or Frankie and I am in paradise!

This is what i currently use.... but as mentioned.. i dont love having earphones in...
You can get an A2DP stereo bluetooth adapter for the ipod and use wireless motorola S9 stereo headphones. Alternatively put the music on an A2DP capable phone listen to your music and also take/make calls eg.order drinks and food from the galley on the way back to the clubhouse.
