It is truly heartbreaking to hear of Cody's illness. Like any good parents I know you'll do whatever you can to help him and it sounds like you did. The wife and Tybee and I will keep Cody in our hearts and prayers.

Thats a heroic story! I recently lost a dog to cancer and the loss is still very fresh. My dogs cancer was misdiagnosed and got out of hand quickly spreading to vital organs. We have no confidence in chemo therapy and were unaware of alternative treatments. We did go to NCSU's vet school with him and there was little they could do. It was miserable to watch him whittle away, even harder to make the decision to put him down.
It sounds like you have found a miracle indeed!

Funny, but these same treatments have been researched for humans and with success. But due to the Government (again) these protocols are not available to the American People.

But, as I said, we have not broken out the champagne yet, although we are really feeling good about him -- every day he is obviously feeling better and better. A week ago his lymph nodes on each side of his neck were pretty large.., they are now getting smaller. His fur is getting lustrous and he is again playing with his favorite toys. One of which when squeezed recites the prayer, “Now I lay me down to sleep...”
So, we at least are starting to chill the champagne.

When we took him to the local vet we saw he was enthralled. He spend over an hour with us just asking questions and feeling Cody. He had just recently lost his Great Dane to cancer and you could see the wonder in his eyes.., wondering why he didn’t search elsewhere besides the normal shoot em up and let em die theory.

But, we don’t know if this is going to be permanent. Even if not, at least he is now having a pleasant existence,

Being in the drug/medical device research industry (which is a multi billion dollar industry that is born out of FDA red tape alone) - I could go on for hours about the hurdles to medicine development. People get upset at the amount of time it takes to get drugs to market, and they complain about the costs of them, and how much the drug companies spend on advertising their drugs.

If they knew the huge amount of work it takes to get something as benign as a simple eye drop, or nose spray to market, they'd rethink their targets of scorn.

That being said, the people that do this work, all keep the fact that they are helping people in the backs of their minds. When I do get into the middle of my 80 hour work weeks, it makes coping with it a lot easier knowing that the work I do - does in fact end up helping people (and animals!) heal.

What bothers me is these labs and many others have done double blind testing since the early 80s and have more or less shown they can stop cancer.
But the FDA only recognizes one study that allowed patients pain pills along with the testing. And all the others that were successful did not. Consequently, FDA found the protocol did not work.

They totally ignored the other studies.

While I'm not familiar with the situation that you're talking about - there could be a million different reasons why the FDA didn't look at "other" studies. Personally, I know that my company is researching between 25 to 30 different oncology drugs at any given time, and we're relatively medium sized company. The FDA ends up seeing a fraction of those studies to approval, and only a fraction more actually get approval.

Like I said, because there is such a high percentage of failed attempts, companies like mine navigate the quagmire of FDA red tape, procedures, and audits on behalf of the pharmas because we can do it better, faster, cheaper than they can.

I don't think even those of us on the far right would say that the FDA serves no role and needs to be pared down, but the fact that a multibillion dollar industry has been born out of their hundreds of thousands of pages of regulations speaks volumes about what the real reason why effective medicines sometimes do not make it through to consumers at a reasonable price.

Latest report:
Cody is eating regular meals again and getting pretty peppy for 8-year-old, which is mid-life for a Golden.

When we first took him to the doctor his lymph nodes on each side of his throat were about golf ball size. Now the port side is no longer there and the starboard side is down to Agate size.


Again, only chilling the champagne, but this is really looking like a miracle.

Must be helping.., he now has a voracious appetite. A week ago we could not get him eat anything but dog cookies, and then reluctantly.

Glad to hear that Cody is doing better. I am looking forward to seeing him bright eyed and bushy tailed next month at Steeplechase!

He will be there, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and happy to greet everybody.

While I am away at a seminar, Mary took Cody to the Vet for a checkup. He has gone from 66 lbs to 75lb, the heaviest he has ever been.
Both of his lymph nodes are normal size again.
His white blood cell count is high, probably due to the protocol.
In short, he may have beaten the cancer.


Keeping in mind this protocol works on humans, but is only sold if for a dog. Go figure.

We are currently on our second Golden Retreiver, our first "Dudley" lived to 16 years of age, never grew up. We now have "Chester" who is 12 and diagnosed with sickle cell carcinoma, our vet offered an operation which could see him live for another three years, the downside is it could kill him, so we will take our chances without the op because we believe he will make 15 on his own, regardless!. Goldies are extremely resilient animals, do not grow up and have very strong personalities. Chester used to be 45 kilos, has stabilised at 38 [big lad, head like a pallet of bricks]but we would not be without him, so don't give up on Cody he may surprise you yet,
