If you are a mac user there is a free Java based scoring software package available. I don't have the link at the moment but I remember finding it with google very easily (via a page with info on a bunch of scoring packages).

Sailwave is excellent - very easy to use, but Windoze only.

US Sailing lists a number of scoring programs, including such popular choices as SailWave, RaceSail, and JavaScore at http://www.ussailing.org/racemgt/scoring_programs/

Thx for the tips...this is for the organizers of some local events in Southern CA...they were doing the last event manually...must have been painful.

Cheers!

Mike.

Portsmouth handicap calculations aren't very difficult. There are several worksheets floating around that lead you through the steps and include handy charts for converting seconds to decimal minutes. The hardest part is dividing the decimal elapsed time by the handicap number - and if you have a pocket calculator that's no problem. I've helped run several regattas (PHRF and Portsmouth) where we've calculated the scores manually on the committee boat while motoring back to shore.

Regards,
Eric
