I have a mosquito main for sale, it is a Horizon, radial cut, using kevlar reinforced mylar made by myself. It was used for approx one seasons worth of sailing over two years, and has been stored in very good for approx 5 years, there are no battens included and asking $300 plus freight.

Regards

Matt

Hi Matt,

was the sail designed by you from scratch? Or was it based on other Mossie sails you have looked at? What state are you in? Was it designed for Cat rig or Sloop? How full is it in comparison to current Mossie sails?

Just thought the answers to these Questions might help you sell it.

Regards Gary. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hi All

The sail was designed by my boss at the time, Frank Hammond, on prosail software, I haven't worked at Horizon for quite a few years, but we made two, the first was too full for me, and I gave it to a good friend of mine, Matt Kelly, who now runs Victorian Sailing Supplies, I don't think he has it anymore though. The second, this one, was much better than the first and made from a better material, which the actual name I can't remember. It was cut to suit me sailing cat, I was about 80 kilos at the time, maybe a bit less, if anything it could have had a little more luff curve, but it made my old mossie move along quite nicely. The sail uses 6 battens, I had seen, I think an irwin with 5, but we decided that 6 was the way to go. Off the subject a little, but at around the same time we made a couple of A Class mains, which I passed around at a few regattas with quite good results. I have always intended to use this main again and drag out the old mossie or perhaps build another, but we haven't got a drop of water here (and I'm not exaggerating) and the next closest clubs don't have any mossies. I'm in southwest victoria, Derrinallum (where??? I hear you ask!)
Anyway I'm not saying this is greatest sail or design in the world (although maybe I should have??) but its probably worth looking at if you don't want to buy new or want a VGC secondhand main.

Cheers

Matt

Matt,

My Mozzie came from Derrinallum and its owners dad sailed a Tornado there as well. Do you know of them ? When was the last time Derrinallum had a race ?

Peter

Hi Peter

Yes I can't quite picture the boat but I'm guessing it was have been Brett Snibsons, for a little country town it was quite popular with Mosquitos, here at the farm there is one which is the same vintage as mine, one of the association kit boats which belongs to my boss's son, which belonged before that to the doc that bought me into the world at Warrnambool. There still a couple more here floating around as well, the most active being 'Dengue Fever' owned by Noones. Derrinallums water first started going down probably 10 years ago, and just kept going, we tried moving to a lake about 40kms away, but it just wasn't the same. The trouble is we have a lake almost right next to ours, which is large in area but shallow, and it has to fill and overflow into Deep Lake. But the local angling club is still spending money out there so it must be going to fill one day.

Cheers

Matt

Last Chance

As I don't want to give this sail away, I will reduce the price one time only, $250.00 + freight (freight to Melbourne would be $35.00.) After that will become part of my collection <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

Matt,

The suspense is too much for me. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
Who is the new lucky owner of the bargain mainsail? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Regards,

Peter
