Melvin of USA Wins the A-Class Worlds in France
The regatta included 100 of the worlds’ best A Class Catamaran sailors
from 16 countries. The fleet was comprised of seven former A Class Catamaran
World Champions (including Melvin), and at least four Olympic medallists.
Glenn Ashby from Australia, winner of the last two World Championships,
ended up in second place. Steve Brewin, also from Australia and a past
World Champion, was third. Melvin completed the
event with very consistent scores, never falling below ninth place in
any of the eight races completed. “The A2 performed very well in
its first World Championship showing. My speed was consistently good,
especially downwind, allowing me to move up through the fleet and finish
near the top in all races sailed,” said Melvin. Click

Last, Comfortable Underclothing for Wet/Dry Suits, and Sun Protection
*Wet and Dry Suits usually cause skin abrasion. You need something to
stop the scratching and itching.
*When sailing on a hot day in warm water, you can't go bare.., the sun
will bake you.
*Even on the beach you need sun protection other than greasing yourself
up
*When racing you need something to cover those bulky PFDs to reduce windage
and keep you from snagging on booms, masts, sheets or whatever. Well, thanks to modern fabrics life on the water is much
better for sailors, divers, swimmers or anyone exposed to the sun, wind
and water. Gul makes a great Rash Guard top that answers all these problems
and more.., and they also simply look great worn for everyday use.
You can get this great Rash Guard starting at ONLY $19.95,

Dave Mimlitch/Ian Billings Win Great Texas Race
Team Texas Performing Racing sailed a great final leg and showed up on
the beach six minutes behind Team Tybee Island. Since Team TPR had a slower
rated boat (approximately 3 minutes per hour), it looked like Team TPR
had the race in the bag. However, Team TPR had used two pushers on the
beach start and the rules specify a 5 minute penalty on elapsed time for
using more than one pusher. The penalty was assessed. Team TPR was thus
11 minutes behind on elapsed time for the day and no one knew who had
won the race. The numbers were run by PRO Tom Meyer and Team TPR ended
up winning the race on less than five minutes corrected time. Click

Dramatic
last day for the Tornado World Championships
Race 9 had nothing less than 19 boats black-flagged, including provisional
leaders ESP Fernando Echavarri and Anton Paz, which, at that point, cost
them the title. The Spanish team entered the last day of the event with
11 points separating them from runner-up GBR Leigh McMillan and Will Howden.
The situation changed dramatically with his black-flag plus the second
place the British got in the race – McMillan and Howden were now
23 points ahead. ESP Echavarri and Paz put in a
protest for redress as soon as they arrived on-shore. They had evidence
that they were actually not over the line. After a long hearing the Jury
ruled them correct and they were granted the redress which put them back
in first place and World Champions.Click

500 Coverage to be Televised on OLN Channel
For years Mike Worrell vainly tried to get some sort of TV coverage of
the Worrell 1000, but failed to do so. In just a couple of year the Tybee
500 has made that level of exposure. CDH Productions followed the race
from the beginning to the end and did a professional job of coverage.
They will air the show on June 21 at 3PM on the OLN Channel, or Channel
608 on DirecTV.
