There is a lot of variation in board/slot tightness on NACRAS which affects which method is best for your boat.

My favorite way is to glue some outdoor carpet at the front and back of the slot(2 inches), leaving the middle bare. This puts the pressure at the ends of the board which stabilizes it better without the friction of a fully carpeted slot.

You do have the side-loaders, don't you?
