The Rum Race Rolf started in about 6 to 8 knots and did ease to about 5 knots towards the end of the race, the sea was smooth with a long under swell running, but there was always enough wind for all the spinnaker cats to fill and gain advantage from their kites and as that was for the whole of the race except for the first short beat to the turning “gate” it made for some interesting racing. Mind you nearly everyone that sailed in division one has had many years of experienced and there were several of the guys on the various cats that have won or are national champions, so the competition is not “shoddy” by a long shot.
The other race posted was sailed in excellent racing wind conditions (10 to 14) and as well as these, I have the results of every race that the Alpha F14’s sailed in during the season and although the conditions vary from drifters to 25 plus the one constant, regardless of the weather condition on the day, is the positions at the head of the fleet of the F14
