When I sailed the Ruff Rider distance catamaran race in 2002, I raced Portsmouth, cause there just arent that many Nacra 5.5u's in Texas with (or without, really!) spinnakers. Anyway, the hot new Getaways (hot from the rotomold, of course) were in the same class. Scott Kee the race director assured us at the skipper's meeting that due to handicap differences, "If you SEE the Getaways, you're losing". I saw them...when it got reachy and weedy they just plowed on. They took first and third in Portsmouth, if I remember correctly, with a Hobie 17 in between.
In related news, Jamie Gaines took 3rd of 12 boats sailing Portsmouth at the last open Hobie Mid-Americas, while only sailing three of five races, on, you guessed it, a Getaway.
