Well the rig design was limited by the available mandrels at Forte. He only had two that were suitable for a rotating rig and one was for a corsair 31, which was way to big. The other section was slightly smaller than the original, but not by much. Other than that I tried to replicate the original mast as close as possible because I already have a really nice mainsail made for that mast. I even took off the rather ingenious stiletto adjustable spreaders and put them on the new mast, same for the mast step receiver. The oroginal spreaders allow for adjustability in spreader rake as well as diamond tension. The biggest advantage of Forte over other carbon options was cost, this rig was about a third the cost of a pre preg rig. Not as pretty, but just as strong, maybe a little heavier, but sooo much lighter than the original mast, and anyone who has been scared on a stileto 23 will tell you that weight aloft is a BIG issue on a big boat with a very fine entry. Hoped to sail today, but 20kts plus and thunderstorms is not the greatest conditions for day 2... looksgood for tomorrow though! Oh yeah it weighs 81 pds.
