With a 16 m2 spi on the A-class I sail 30 deg from straight downwind course even though I'm hanging flat out on the trapeze (in high winds and flat water). The Hobie 16 wouldn't have a chance....

The image above is a tracklogg from an upwind/downwind leg with the A-class using spi, wind is from south. Check the angles between the gybes!
