I sail in shallow waters with an A Class cat and dont trust the rod rudder system so wonder if anyone has a real;y simple shock cord type arrangement so if hit anything the rudders will kick up and then drop down when I am past the sand bank.

Also just wondering if anyone has any data on opttimum rudder centreboard lengths for optimum upwind performance.

The reason I ask is that I am considering shortening the rudders and making shallow centreboards to ease the worry of ripping the centrboard cases out when sailing fast in the shallows.

I figure the ruders can be shortened to a point when I still have steerage downwind in a seaway.
