Great story! For those of you in the US on the East Coast who want the same experience, check out the Annapolis to Oxford Race on the Chesapeake Bay. It's held in September each year. About 200 monohulls participate. It's 2 day race. The first day is a 40 mile race from Annapolis to Oxford. Great party Saturday night. The second day is a medium distance race from Oxford back out to the bay.
I sailed on a Tornado that started 30 minutes and 8 miles behind the entire fleet, and finished first.
Just as David Elliot tells it, this is an incredible experience on a beach cat. It is also nice for the monohullers. They have something to look at while they are sitting on the rail all day.
