That spinnaker design on the skiff may not work for F16 as the ISAF half measurement still needs to be 75% of the foot & hence you would have a rather large roach on the leech of the kite.?

That is right. We have a design constraint with the measurement definition of a spi. The 75% rule virtually guarantees that "hooter" sails or code zero type sails will not be developed on the platform, for wich there are several good reasons and some not so good. All discussed widely in the past.

The shapes are funny looking. Matt says the mainsail shape have been tried on the A cats without much success. Pictures from the worlds at Islamorada dont show many similar shapes so they obviously dont believe in this development path. Some 18 footers have taken this further and now have what looks like an old fashioned gaff rig in development. The leech and head intersection is now above the masttip! I still think the head will become too flat, but what do I know <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Cool to see something "new" anyway.

Some classes have looked at these sail shapes as their rules define how to measure sail shape which is not the same as the ISAF defn (and maybe they have a "max mast length" rule). Thus they "gain" extra sail area by having sails this shape.
