I was also hoping that it would float across sand better than the skinny tires.
Unless you have low pressure tires like on beach wheels, skinny works better in the sand. The fat, high pressure tires tend to push a pile of sand up in front of them. It depends too on how hard the sand is. Soft - skinny, hard - any size.
