Not until today. Channel 7 broadcast the Tornado medal race this afternoon. I think Bundy and Ashby were lucky that there were no other Australian medals happening today so they got a lot more coverage than sailing would normally.
There were two windward-leeward laps and as they rounded the windward mark the first time and the first couple of spinnakers went up Channel 7 went to an ad break. By the time they'd shown enough ads the Tornados were back on the next windward leg. Unbelievable.
Anyway the Aussies had a lousy start, 8th at the first mark while the Spaniards they had to beat by two places were right up the front. They did well to catch up while the Spanish guys dropped back. In the end it was SPA 4th (Gold) and AUS 5th (SILVER), so they did good but not quite enough for gold.
TV coverage of sailing has been [censored] as usual. Not unexpected. Channel 7's cut away to the ads shows that brightly coloured spinnakers and high speed downwind legs are completely irrelevant to the TV producers. They might as well have been racing Optimists.
If there's a DVD from ISAF it might be worth buying just for the 49er carnage.
