Use the jib to pull you through the eye of the wind on tacks.

Don't let the rudders go to neutral during a tack.

I was a distant fourth because of a crappy start. The three boats in front of me tacked early because of a sloping bottom and were pinching to make the finish line. I told my crew to watch for grass on the bottom and yell GRASS!! when she saw some. She did. We tacked and were hauling bootie. We drove over the third place boat so fast it was sucked up into irons. Nailed the second place boat, caught up with the first place boat and finished. We didn't know how we did until we went past the committee boat. They told us we beat the first place boat by less than a foot.
