Keith,
So far the weather looks reasonable for both days. The dominating weather patern for Naraganset Bay and New Bedford, MA is the sea breeze. I would expect light notherlies in the morning giving way to a seabreeze near Pt Judith on the first day and a rocking downwind leg to the first days finish. If you get to the West passage before 1 pm expect a rough ride if the seabreeze has kicked in (wind against tide). After 2 pm the tide flips and the chop should lay down alot.
One of the key spots is exiting Fishers Island sound. There are 3 channels out. One near fishers Island sound (Wicopesset passage), One Near watch Hill (Watch Hill Passage) and one in the middle. You will be passing through
at mid tide. The current will be with you and will be 2-5 knots depending on where you are. I usualy go out Wicopesset because the current is stronger longer. If the wind is light it often pays to jibe along the Coast.
When you round Pt Judith, Watch for the surf line. If the swells are big give it a wide berth. Usualy if there are surfers in the water and you are 100 yards past them you are out of the danger zone.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask spesific questions friday eve or Sat
I will do a quick chart briefing Saterday Morning for those who want it.
