Traditionally, the race starts just south of the Rickenbacker Causeway and proceeds directly to the Jewfish Creek area of Key Largo. All entrant boats include both monohulls and multihulls in various classes and must be greater than 14 feet in overall length. Racers always look forward to sailing in the Miami to Key Largo Race and, of course, to the party in Key Largo after it is over.
The race’s fastest elapsed time for a catamaran is 1 hour and 49 minutes, turned in by Captain Eric Roberts in a RC-27 in 1997, and the best ever elapsed time for a monohull was achieved by the late Captain Jim Williams in his famous Elysium in 3 hours and 23 minutes.(Copied from the Miami Yacht Club Site)for entry information go to miamiyachtclub.net
