Was the clew fitting failure related to insufficient strength alone ?

Somers cancelled Saturday's racing with consistent 25 knots and 30 knot bullets. Since the start would have been offshore it was a wise decision. Some of the Hobie 16's went out for a bit of fun with lots of white water and some spectacular capsizes.
